Deep in the Boonies in the central Sierra Nevada mountains of California.
WOW...If Bete pops, it would/could be as bright as a full Moon, and this would be during the daytime.

The 2012 nuts have been filed with the flat Earther's, they can have a nice conversation on "were does the ocean go when it falls off the edge" if the Earth was flat, and did the Mayans evacuate the Earth when they knew the end was near.

I thought everybody knew about 'beading', water on a microscope slide for example. Surface tension and menisci from the same field.

And Mayans discovered gravity boots and just drilled down to live on the other side.

Rather than sunspots, the money last year was ejected silicates forming a cloud around Betelgeuse, though it would have to be a huge amount to cause such dimming.
The 'spots' could also be large lumps of heavier elements depositing on the surface, a precursor to a supernova on a giant star before the collapse of the core.

It was also suggested years ago that Betelgeuse was a binary or possibly multiple star system, with the circumstellar clouding being the remnants of the partner(s) after their demise.
