FTA news channel due to launch tomorrow. It will be transmitting in Arabic and is owned by a Saudi Arabian prince. Its based in Manama in Bahrain due to Saudi restrictions on independent news channels.

Signal strength is marginal here on a 1m dish, although Im not sure if thats because the dish has moved slightly in the recent gales or its just low power!

Just showing promo loops atm

Not yet on KoS or Flysat :D :D

The newly launched Alarab news channel was off air just hours after itlaunched from Bahrain on Sunday.

Programming at the channel owned by Saudi billionaire Prince Alwaleed bin Talal is still unavailable and at the moment a loop with a promotional video is being shown.

Alarab promised to bring “an objective, fresh and unbiased view of world events.” True to these words, one of its first broadcasts included a Shiite opponent of Bahrain’s Sunni rulers.

Commenting on the sudden suspension of its live broadcasts, the channel said on its Twitter account that broadcasting has “stopped for technical and administrative reasons and that it will be back soon.”

AFP quoted the head of media at Bahrain’s information ministry, Yusuf Mohammed, that “cooperation with Alarab’s administration is ongoing, in order to resume its broadcasts and complete necessary measures as soon as possible.”

And now suspended due to "licensing issues"

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-31297543

Which of course is complete ballcocks as it wouldnt have been on air in the first place without the necessary Bahrani permits, but its a good excuse to shut them down for upsetting the host government

Channel "Al-Arab" is going to move from Bahrain to Cyprus

According to media reports, "talks with the leadership of the channel Cypriot side reached the final stage." The founders of the "Al-Arab" chose Cyprus as the country's broadcasting because of its proximity to the Middle East.

New pan-Arab satellite channel "Al-Arab" plan to begin broadcasting from Cyprus after the Bahraini government ordered the closure of its appearance in the air after only a few hours, said Friday the internet news portal "Kuwait Akhbar al-Yum" referring to the Greek media.

Owned by Saudi billionaire Walid bin Talal channel "Al-Arab" stopped broadcasting of Manama on the day after his appearance in the air 1 February to "technical and administrative reasons", despite the ceremonial launch of the channel information minister of Bahrain.

The disappearance of the channel off the air associated with them released an interview with a representative of the opposition party "Al-Wifaq", which criticized one of the decrees of the king of Bahrain. One week after the government announced its decision to close the channel due to the fact that he had not received the necessary permission to broadcast.

"Negotiations with management channel Cypriot side reached the final stage," - said the news portal. According to him, the founders of "Al-Arab" chose Cyprus as the country's broadcasting because of its proximity to the Middle East.

In addition, according to the portal, Cyprus is fully equipped for the needs of the channel building owned by the Arab media company that owns them with 1990-ies.
