I've closed the long running Thread about the circumstances leading up to the rescheduled Launch as it seems reasonably certain that Astra 2E will finally Launch very soon.

Here's a Link (for continuity) to the old Topic

In the same vein as we did last year, for Astra 2F, in due course we'll open Topics relating first of all to Testing and then to Operational Reports from around Europe (and elsewhere ............... ?!).

Good idea! Threads can get a bit unwieldy after 340+ posts. (A link to this thread from the old one would have been handy ;-)

ILS have finally updated their page with launch date and time, a media advisory link plus, as solly has posted, a link to the webstream.

Watching in HD requires MS Silverlight however clicking on the iOS button gives me an ILS graphic so hoping that will work on my Android phone's browser.

Am I right in assuming the broadcast finishes an hour after liftoff? It won't run for the full 9hrs until 2E's separation?

It'll be the usual hour or so transmission. I dont think the American presenters could waffle for nearly 10 hours when theres not a lot happening for much of the last 9 hours :D

The exact flight time depends on exactly where the customer for the flight wants the satellite delivering to. Flight times vary for various reasons including the solar illumination required on the unfurled panels on the bird for on board electric generation, the exact orbital injection required etc.

Cheers, guess we'll find out the following morning when ILS/SES issue a press release. Most of the action happens within the first hour anyway!

Big waste of money from the powers that be, always a solution to circumvent both uk freesat and some sky encrypted progs.

Time to get my BBC iplayer pc to tv going using a uk proxy.

Regards

How can sending new technology replacement Satellites to replace ageing ones and provide continuity for the target audience be a waste of money? :confused

It's not a conspiracy devised exclusively to prevent overspill but merely a natural progression.

Fringe is completely irrelevant to the operator - SES have said so on their facebook page a few months ago. Blame the customers not the sat operators anyway - the coverage areas for new satellites are determined by what the broadcasters want.

:-lolSo no harm in setting up my iplayer system idea ( even HD quality )

And before you begin to criticise us on the fringes lusting for uk freesat tv here is what are the FTA sats on your web page :-

FTA digital satellite from 10 fixed dishes:
5E/7E/9E/10E/13E/16E/19E/20E/21.5E/23.5E/25.5E/26E/28E
33E/36E/42E/45E/46E/47.5E/48E/52.5E/53E/55E/57E/30W

Quite. No one criticises lust for UK Channels - on the contrary, it proves just how well regarded they are (Especially the BBC) compared to offerings from many other sources.

But it's a matter of taking what you can get (As we in the UK do with many other Sats, as you rightly imply) within the constraints of technology and the wishes (And Rights) of the Providers.

Who is criticising??

Sadly things are only going to get worse over the enxt few years as older sats are removed from front line service and new ones are deployed with tighter spots - we have already seen the future with Eut 9B - 4 spotbeams.

And once Ka band reception becomes the norm its game over for out of area reception.

However there will always be iptv based alternatives.
