The Post-Testing Topic has become rather unwieldy, so it seems appropriate to freshen things up a bit whilst we are still waiting for evidence of 2E finally shifting from 43.5E to its Operational position.

Carry on, chaps.

Well only a couple of days of optical observation left as the moon is going to put a stop to it for a couple of weeks.

Thank you for that action, I did not understand most of it anyway. I am just a punter in Cyprus and all I want to know is are we going to lose all SKY satellite signals, Yes or No?
If they cannot move the 2E then maybe some fault has developed?
Is that why Channel 5 HD (ch 171) has moved back to the 2A satellite? Too much stuff on
2F ex-1N maybe?
I do not understand why Astra SES/SKY are so secretive!
Viktor.

SES have claimed that 2E is "working normally" and we have no reason to doubt that from our own observations during Testing.

The delay appears to be due to other Satellite movements (It gets rather technical, but suffice to say that too much orbital action could lead to disaster).

As for secrecy, SES have no reason to inform people outside the intended reception area of what are otherwise normal asset replacements. And the intended audience for the Satellite are not affected anyway as transition is virtually seamless and invisible.

Therefore, as far as SES is concerned, the only valid purpose for issuing detailed progress reports would be to satisfy a few hobbyists and I can understand why they wouldn't see that as a priority.

Is this based on some inside knowledge or speculation?

If 1H is heading for 31.5E, based on it's current location I make it 12 days to go from today which will take us to Saturday 14th. Someone mentioned, and I don't know the details, that 1H is intened for 31.5 as backup for 1G it's because there are a few new transponders being leased, presumably, carrying higher profile services for SES's customers and they may/or may not have actually paid for some sort of redundant backup? If this is the case then from an Operation and Business Continuity perspective is much higher up the pecking scale than 2E as there's no current problems with other services at 28.2E.

If 1H arrives at 31.5E and 2E still doesn't move then I'm lost for ideas, if though, as someone else said, it then carries on to arrive at 28.2E will I wonder if there's really a problem with 2E we don't know about! I very much doubt this at all, people all thought that with 2F but look how that's panned out!

When 1H ends up at 28.2 we'll know that something is wrong :p

Well strangely enough, WDR (German public broadcaster) is listing the new 11.053H transponder on Astra 1H... although it is on 2C ( at least currently ;) )

Yes or no? Impossible to say

Do you get any of the new Astra 2F European beam channels? That will give you an idea if you are going to be ok or lose channels as 2E is more or less identical to 2F

Astra 1H only has high band. ;)

@ M60, using GorbTrack and today's TLE, Astra 1H would arrive a bit later at 31.5 East, no sooner than 17 or 18 Dec.

Me too - just found out why I lost many 28,2E channels an hour ago.
A massive wall of snow exactly positioned along my reception path.
More than 200 km of really massive snowfall where it hurts the most like
a tailor-made attenuator to remove all signals heading for Linköping.
First massive dropout during the last three years. Some people won't
care anyway, the powerlines are down in rural areas.

Shoot, that's bad!

Puts our UK "Storm Surges" to shame.

Seven dead so far - no jokes tonight!
UK is also bad but perhaps no heavy snowfall and lots of traffic accidents like here.

Also norwegian weather chaos:D

Thursday’s storms that caused problems in Norway left some 24,000 people in southern Norway’s Agder Counties without electricity. 3,500 were still affected earlier today.

Had my backup genny running all night:-rofl2

edit:
Maybe belongs in the batten down the hatches section

While the big cold front passed us, I was watching my CM180 doing the shakes... it must have moved at least 5-7 cms back and forth. Still, checking the strength and quality on the FoxSat, the signal strength varied betwen 95 and 100%, and quality was rock-steady at 100%. Went back and checked the dish - and yes it was still rocking back and forth a bit!
Needless to say, I am very happy with that solution...
Neighbour's antenna and dish (60cm) came down, I am missing a terrace chair (really, I have no idea where it has gone - I have 7 of the 8 I had day before yesterday), but I am tracking 2F perfectly still. Slightly amazed, I am...
