However I had plumped for the English punk rock band from Leamington Spa formed in 2007

Ah, but my dear Watson....had we not previously established that the image dates from 2006? (as per the fruit stall calendar)

That would be about right - the Virgin Digital brand launched 2005 & was closed late 2007.

To be honest I reckon all the answer have to be well known bands / acts - in my opinion its unlikely that some obscure group would have been chosen for it.

Indeed Holmes. But had I not also said that my musical knowledge from those later dates was sorely lacking.

Interesting. I had wondered whether they could represent The Surfaris but put that to one side when The Beach Boys were suggested.

Was there ever any answer for the manakin in the shop window below the Virgin Digital sign? Can't tell if there's something else in the window or if it's just reflections messed up by jpeg compression.

My eyes are drawn to that three-lamp traffic (?) light where the white snake coils the post. I haven't come across those lights on UK roads, maybe they're used in the US. I suspect it's there in the picture as a clue.

So, maybe something starting with three? The only band I certainly know is the US rock band Three Dog Night, but there's no obvious help there as far as I can see.

Let's use the digit 3. I'm struggling now, so perhaps let's add some more digits. What's right near to the lights? That window across the road has two vertical curtains in it. 3+2? no. 3+11? Bingo!

311, yet another obscure (to me) US rock band.

Not saying these are right but just some thoughts:

The yellowman/yello bloke could be drum n bass supremo Goldie?

The B52s have Vapour Trails coming from them, although they should be coming from the engines - so they could be chem trails, hence why the sky is pink
The Vapour Trails had an album rereleased in Japan in 2016, so not completely obscure.

Alternative for the B52's - Joan Jett, B52's is extremely likely to be correct.

Alternative for Green Day - the date marked on the calendar is a Monday, so maybe Happy Mondays, but again probably not.

The Reflections are visible in the cornershop window. A "soul formation from Harlem" apparently.

The person above the Virgin Digital banner could be Blondie?

Fairies are sometimes mistaken as The Pixies

Are the cars in a traffic jam? So that may be The Jam?
