IMHO: Existing safety-chain connection of @scopus is OK. Just remember that it is there in case the actuator breaks. If actuator eye breaks than the bolt, holding it to the frame will still be there and chain will hold the dish in any case. But if you wish to make something just connect the safety-chain connect it to existing hole.... do not make new one.

Yes, I was think along the same lines, really just in case the actuator decides to break. It is a heavy duty Superjack, not expecting to go , but you never know, a belt and braces exercise..

Hallo! Very nice posts here! Very inspirating pictures and informations. This summer i bought Channel Master 180 and next Spring i want to make the stand for the dish. Do you have some schema of polar mount? I can make it myself or put it to firma. Thank you for help :-)

No, it's an old Precision PM that would have come with a 2.2m dish. The only thing I added is the declination control but adding some metal work.

Generally, there are maybe many designs of the PMs for PFAs and offset dishes. I had 1.8m PFA installed on this PM (majority made of INOX). Dish is gone to another place, namely to the ceiling of the garage to work as decoration. But polar-mount is still laying around and if you wish, I can find it and we could make a bargain deal.

Thank you RimNTSS. Sorry, i didn´t write - i have fiberglass Channel Master Offset Dish 185x200 cm with original feedhorn. Weight is about 100 kg, so it has to be something heavy duty:-) It is the same dish like CJ shows here in threat on photos.

Im thinking about something like what is on enclosed the picture. Of course absolutly much more robust (this was very popular polarmount here in CZ for dishes to 120 cm). I don´t know if could be possible to do something like that for so heavy dish like CM180 is... it is only idea...

I like this http://www.primesat.eu/pimages/raven18mot05lg.jpg and need dimensions or is it realy so simple like on the picture from Primesat? I have no experiences with so heavy and big dishes, i have only 120cm Alu on Diseqc motor and this big dish want to install in spring.

No problem @dishdx . You probably have Channel Master 1.8m antenna with working area 1800x1950mm, offset angle 22.62* and opening angle 80*. 100 kilos..... well, it is too much.... mirror weights not more than 35 kilos. I have such a dish as well, so I know what I am speaking about. The picture of the polar mount you showed is a good example to replicate. raven18mot05lg.jpg So, if you have time til spring you can order such a polar mount in the local metal workshop. I do not think it will be so difficult to make one. Just show them the picture.

Yes, Thank You. But how could be the range of such polarmount? Can it rotate from 40W to 90E like diseqC motor?

I think, depending on the fixing points of the actuator, the range of any polar-mount, including this one, can be more or less H-H. So, yes, like Diseqc motor.

ok! it could be good. I have original very robust metal holder of LNB and the holder of the dish. I have to look, what could be possible to i think that this parts (dish holder and lnb holder) are connected.... i have to do some test with wooden prototype on small 60cm dish :-)

Sorry, I do not get that. :( That might be my language issues. Could you show some pictures of what you have?

The range of such a mount will be determined by the distances of the two bearings from the central polar turning point and the length of the actuator arm. Basically the longer of each the better, the number of counts per degree improves and there is less stress on the motor gearbox and the bearings.

There are caveats though, you need a larger space behind the dish, and the tracking speed between satellites will slow accordingly .

Personally I would consider the polarmount from IRTE in the 90's/00's to be about the best available. Very heavy galvanised parts, adaptable and virtually unbreakable, but the disadvantage is a fixed diameter post of approximately 110/115 mm.

They are no longer made, but crop up every now and then on the usual auction sites

TBH, I did not weight CM 1.8m but I weighted NSC 1.8m reflector (it is bigger and heavier than CM 1.8m), and weight was 36.5 kg. There is screenshot where 30kg mentioned for CM 1.8m ScreenHunter_511 Nov. 29 17.54.jpg
