Watching "Made in Great Britain" on York and the choco;ate industry reminded me of two favourites of yesteryear - Terry's Bitter Chocolate and Kunzle cakes.

As a kid in the 50's and 60's my grand-mother when I visited (virtually every week) - no added sugar or dairy and a pure chocolate taste. This gave me my lifetime preference for dark chocolate over milk choc.

My mother's favourite cakes were Kunzle Showboats which I also got addicted to. They were chocolate shells with spomge in and buttercream - J. Lyons & Co.

I;ve not seen either for many years - does anyone else share fond memories of these or any other chocs of that period

The heiress of the Terry fortune lives directly across our village lane from me. In their dining room, they have a rather large model of the former factory.

In the 40's and 50's, sweets were rationed, but we were allowed to buy them ration-free up to a certain weight per month.

My favourite at the time was Fry's Five Boys, a bar with five little images embossed on the sections of chocolate.

I enjoyed snapping their silly little heads off and gobbling them up

I used to enjoy a bar called Coffee Crisp. Unfortunately there was a bar called Toffee Crisp and most places I tried thought I meant that. After a while I couldn't find Coffee Crisps anywhere just the damn toffee thingy. I miss those Coffee Crisps.

I remember when chocolate bars weren't so minute & suffering yearly shrinkage, won't be long before they're just selling empty wrappers filled with the scent of chocolate, damned cheapskates..... <_<
