Don't format the disc fat32, it should be formatted ext3 for enigma 2. I would advise you to format the drive first using you'r pc, then install it in you'r box, and if you are using a recent image, the box will automount the drive, saving you a load of trouble.

Hi
How do you formatt it via a PC and then to ext3 for enigma 2 - not fat32. Would you be more specific as I'm not very up with the IT jargon

Thanks Tosher

Most HDD's in Enigma 2 receivers are initialized formated like this: -

Menu > Setup > System > Harddisk > Initialize.

Install the hard disk in your pc, then use paragon partition manager to format the disk ext3, then put it in your dreambox and you should have no problem. Or download a Ubuntu Linux and burn it to disk, then boot your pc from the Ubuntu disk, and use that to format to ext3.

Have you tried just hitting record button on remote?

I know it sounds a tad simplistic but I have actually installed a hdd inside a dreambox in the past and just started recording without ever initialising it and it has worked.

Just try it and see what happens.

Hi to all who contibuted and thanks

Through trial and error and help I have got the hard drive working and recording tv programmes :).

This is how I managed to get the HDD disk to work.

1. Get a copy of SpotMau and copy their disk recovery CD.

2. Use your PC take out your old hard drive and replace it with the one you want to formatt.

3. Run your PC with the SpotMau recovery disk ( need to set your PC to boot up by the CD).

4. When the PC boots up run >A: fdisk and state (Y) large disk. then use the programme to partition the disk , then initialize the disk. After this is done close programme.

5. Restart PC and run SpotMau disk recovery and use the formatt disk option in FAT32 (number7).

6. Replace the new formatted disk back in your Dreambox and BINGO it should work.

Mate you could have problem's recording anything over 4Gb in size, because you have formatted Fat32, that's why i told you to format the disk Ext3 which is the correct format for Linux/Enigma2.

Thanks goose68 for this

But I'm a little unclear in which format you are relating to - is it NFTS or something else. I did name the disk ext3 though when I formatted it in FAT32.

No you have to format the disk to Ext3 not just name it that. Ntfs/fat32 are Windows. Ext3 is Linux/enigma2. You will need to use a program like paragon partition manager to format the disk to ext3, as some of the program's can only format in Windows extensions types.

Look at the picture you will see what i mean.

Hi Goose68

Have reinstalled the 2.5 hard drive formatted to ext3fs ( used Paragon Partition start up disk through PC). The FAT32 format did not record over 4.0gb, hence the re-format. Used the record button on remote and all is well with start/stop process. Hope this helps others who view this thread.
