Yes Trust but I will continue my search but for many years I have see sat receivers with every thing built in but I hope its from Europe looking on Ebay I have found a few C + KU band LNBs so wait and see how we get on . But the lock down could go on for months so got lots to do .

.. You could place a 'Wanted' ad on the forum for one or the other perhaps - you never know, somebody might have one that they can do without ?.

Hi S band well never had any problems with know were the dish was pointed at .
There are a few RC2000s for about £200 + tax. They pop up cheaper sometimes. The RC2KA is without inclined tracking and the RC2KC with (if you want a beacon tracking RX I have a spare). I use one on a 1.2m on az-el which works ok at Ku & below but needs re-synching after a while for Ka. If used with a 36V DC motor you get PWM speed control which is nice for a large dish. Most are for az-el vs. polar but they work fine for polar mounts anyway, don't they? @John.

Yes.
But don't forget - i use mine in total manual mode for AZ & EL - i can see where it is at any time via the dish cam on it and iv'e got the full band spectrum plots embedded in my mind for most of the common sats that i use lol.

I have not seen a modern consumer grade satellite receiver with inbuilt 36V/Skew control. If you do manage to locate one there might be a few forum members willing to form part of a mini group buy to reduce shipping charges if sourced from overseas. The last one I got was the Echostar DVR7000 which was a later model to the Echostar AD3600IP but still kept the 36V/Skew control option and also had an internal HDD for recording.

I think the Echostar DVR7000 may have been the last receiver built by Echostar that had 36V/Skew control before they pulled out from that niche of the market?

Morning Guys Wow maybe I was looking on the wrong page but I found nothing regarding the ASC1 but I did email yesterday so we shall wait and see but your right that page says they still have them but I found the same when looking for SMW Ku-Band Quad Multiband LNB (switchable) Q-PLL Type G Size 23 they had them but when you try to pay it wont take the order .

Ok Moonbase on cleaning the dish yes I think I will wait till the weekend but you did the same as I did on my large rotator I used the dremel to remove all the paint then about 3 coats of Hammerite - Red Special Metal Primer then 4 coat of Hammerite top coat .But it came very . But we still 11 weeks of lock down left so lots of time

Ok on the Echostar DVR7000 I wonder if that was MPEG-2 or MPEG4 I wonder .From the way you speak did Echostar go bust or there not making sat receivers any more ? I think the problem is demand there is very little demand for having a big Dish in Europe due the the size of foot prints and without the demand no body is going to stock just go to Ebay and see if you can find a corotor all states side or Jordon nothing in Europe . But if you go to many places in the middle east + all over the world the roofs are full of motorised satellite systems . So far this company is the only one that might stock what I need . Buy Commercial Satellite Dish| Toner Cable | www.tonercable.com If you go to the URL your see what I mean . I have emailed them but so far had no reply .

Thats John , S Band + Trust all points noted I will follow up on all the leads I think today I will strip the sat look down and see what battery I need and get that up and running .

The Echostar DVR7000 is an mpeg2 receiver/positioner. As far as I know Echostar continued to make some satellite receivers after the DVR7000 model but they moved away from integrating the 36V/skew controller in those later models. I am not sure if they manufacture any satellite receivers nowadays but I think they are still in business.

I have attached a few pics below of the Echostar DVR7000 unit I have. It has a fault with the internal HDD that I need to sort out, it turns on but gives an HDD error on boot. The HDD probably needs reformatting or replacing with a suitable model but I think Echostar might have used fome type of proprietary partitioning on the internal HDD. I tried to get it to boot without the HDD connected to the main board but it refuses to do so.

Thanks Moonbase understood the DVR7000 is the same as the Echostar ad 3600ip only good for MPEG-2 so I would be in the same boat again . Well on stripping down the Sat Look to change out the battery by remove the cover I can see the battery but they seem to have use 6 custom screws some thing like a Alan Screw head these seem to be holding the battery in place . Any thoughts on what tool before I make some thing up . I have looked in the manual and there is nothing not even the model of the battery so I think they want you to send the whole meter back .

Channel Hopper How did you get the battery out because I cant see how you get the battery out without removing the top bracket .

John been looking at your RCI RC2000 it looks some thing like what the guys use for contacting the ISS and its all pumped into your computer and tracks the sat as it goes over .

Thos screws could be standard "Torx" (maybe T-25 or T-30?) ones and not custom specials - plenty of suitable tools, or "Swiss army knife" sets, out there to remove/refit them.
I've got something like this set, and it's been very useful over the years

Thanks Jeallen Yes I think I can get those from my local shop but they maybe closed due to lock down , They seem to be listed as Tamper Proof Torx so I think they want you to send the meter back to Sat Look . Looking at what is available on ebay I think its best I get a set because knowing my luck if I buy just a 25 its going to be a 30 so best buy a Set T15 T20 T25 T30 Torx Drive . Then comes finding a replacement battery .

Maybe get a separate dish at 30w? So you can still enjoy the motorized as well.
That minidish will work perfectly might have to change lnb!

The difference between standard Torx bits and tamper-proof Torx bits is that the latter have small hemispherical indentations in the ends to fit over the "bumps" in the centers of the tamper-proof Torx screws - but the latter bits also work fine in the non-tamper-proof Torx screws! :D

NB: if you have a local Screwfix branch and it's open for click & collect only (many still are), then they stock many Torx tools and so you might be able to get some there.

Just curious, are you actually going to replace the battery now that you know what's needed?

Apologies for the late reply and yes, the battery shown is now installed after the Maplin unit was feeling rather tired. Whilst the PowerSonic unit is a second hand item it has kept a charge of 13.5V over it's year long haitus under the stairs.

Good Afternoon Channel Hopper yes the battery no longer holds a charge so once I get my Torx screwdriver set I will get them clamp free and then remover the battery and like you did I think the speaker needs to be removed . once the battery is out I will check its size and see whats available then see were I can get one from . But it was bought in 2007 so not done to bad , I have 2 larger ones in my UPS .

Ref the replacement rechargeable battery, take a look at this and associated pages on the CPC Farnell website https://cpc.farnell.com/search?st=rechargeable battery

It is a "mainly trade" site, but very happy to deal with the general public provided you set up an account. P&P is free on all orders over £8 +VAT if you take the basic 3-5 day delivery service, albeit that anything over jiffybag-size is likely to come via UPS (AKA "Useless Parcel Service" in my recent experience!) but it will eventually arrive "in due course".

Many items, especially small electronic components can be much cheaper than elsewhere, but do be careful as many "normal" items can be more expensive if you don't shop with your eyes open. OTOH, once you have an account, they will (or at least up to now) send you small weekly/fourtnighly paper catalogues which can often have special-offer prices on some items, albeit that those may have different stock codes to the same ones being sold at the normal prices - that's how I recently got 14 very good LED 5W candle bulbs for the lounge for just over 2 quid each, as opposed to the normal price of nearly 4 quid each (either way, they were a lot cheaper than Amazon or eBay)!:)

BTW: not just electrical/electronic stuff - anything from camping gear to garden tools and Xmas lights often becomes seasonaly available!

All understood Jeallen once I have got the old battery out I can check its size and spec as its clear its a tight fit in the rear of the sat look , My local shop here is rapid electronics I have a trade account there so the plan would be to take the old battery round to them , Yes I have bought from RS + farnell before once the battery is out I will have a look on line what might be suitable . It looks like just a bog standard 12 volt 7 Amp hour its all down to size . But cant do much until my Torx screwdriver set arrives .Then comes getting it out of the case but I think CH was right I think you need to remove the speaker then it should be more straight forward to remove it .

Anyway tomorrow I will get the karcher out and make a start on cleaning the dish then have a go at cleaning the corrosion off .Once the Sat Look is working I can check out the Corortor and LNBs the corrosion on there is very bad so they may need replacing but from what I can see the polarmount is still spot on so no need to adjust that .But still got 10 more weeks of lock down so lots to do . Oh yes how many can of under coat and top coat did you use Moonbase ?

Go on then, I will bite to your reply, what part do you not understand ?

OK, a couple of days late, but only because I have been trying to locate the catalogue I used to have, dated 1996 which had all models, schematics and the one offs produced by Precision Metal. It may have been cleared out though I am almost certain I had uploaded it to the forum at some point in the past.

Anyhow to counter your claims of earlier

Thank you for taking the time to measure the dish, it looks to be a Precision Antennas 3.7m dish. I have just checked the original Precision Antennas catalogue and the only size listed larger than 3.7m was a 4.5m. The next size lower in the Precision range was 3.0m

Without the catalogue I cannot confirm this, though I believe the company would manufacture 4m and 4.2m antennas to order.

Your 3.7m dish has the same focal length as the Precision 2.8m and 3.0m dishes at 1207mm. The difference between them apart from size was the location of the 3 x press stamped feed support holes on the dish surface, they get closer to the edge as size increases. All three dish sizes shared the same length of feed support arms.

Whilst the first sentence is probably true, Prodelin also make a range of prime focus dishes of 3, 3.4 and 3.7m where the focal distance remains the same, there are minor adjustments that can be made to each feed arm (x4) in order to peak the boresight (clevis bolts), and allow changes to the feed type within similar models. With Precision (and probably Elite) feedhorn designs the three studs are fixed within the aluminium scalar rings, fixing the angles at which they can be bolted to the reflector surface.

As such if a larger diameter of dish is selected, simple geometry will confirm the last statement must be false since only a circle retains the same length to the focal point independent of the cross section selected. A parobolic surface cannot have similar feed support arm length with changing diameters. ParabolavCircle.jpg
Picture attached to clarify.

The Prodelin feed rod numbers are, 0176-214 for the 3.7m but once you look at the manual for the 3m/3.4/3.7m you see the part number is marked as 'varies' on Page 26.

Their 4.5m antenna, which shares the same inner reflector surfaces as the 3.7m (hence the same parabolic formula), has a different feedarm length and appropriate part number - 0176-225 which would suggest it is highly unlikely Precision/Elite had identical support arms for each of their larger products, but willing to be corrected on this.

One other item that could have been proven with the 1996 catalogue would be the different feed arms supplied by Precision for C and Ku band variants, since the holes in the reflector remain the same, there must be a difference in the lengths to allow adapters for the same focal length, but accomodating the scalar ring at the lower frequency. I might have a C band version of the 90cm model here (used for Gorizont 11W all those years ago), but it will be near or at the back of the garage.

Thanks CH for the info on the dish but like we found out the other day its not a 4m as thought but its a 3.7m but 4m or 3.7m it seems to work ok or it did before they changed over to MPEG-4 . I think best you speak with MoonBase I may have some where all the paper work for the install . I wish I had the right support arms for the dish but all I have is threaded bar . I did check for max signal on my old Maspro and its all set at the best focal length I will take some photos of how the corotor is mounted with the band round the outside of the scalar ring then the band has lugs that bolts onto the threaded bar . When I am cleaning it tomorrow I take some more pictures of the feed point as for the spec from the catalogue best you have a chat with MB as I dont have any reference books I only know that it was not a simply installed job to install but we did get there in the end as first the guy tried to plam me off with a US spec C band Dish + home made polar mount my old IRTE 1.8 gave a far better signal . He then changed over the dish but the dish was to heavy for the home mount then he bought a Precision Antennas mount and that sorted the problem but this went on for most of 1990 - Oct 1991

As as the battery goes I have found a Powersonic PS 1270 7Ah the same as what is in your picture so that should be ok for a replacement

When I worked on the rim of the Precision 2.0m dish I gave it 3 or 4 sprays with aluminium etch primer at 15 minute intervals between each spraying. I Then left it for a few days and sprayed with 3 or 4 top coats at 15 minute intervals until the grey colour from the etch primer was replaced with a white finish with no bleed through from the grey. One can of each paint type was sufficient.

I did not spray the entire dish, I thought about it but the surface had cleaned up nicely with the cream cleaners and sanding processes. Had I sprayed the entire dish I would have used an HVLP spray system such as an Apollo 1200 or Apollo 1500 with Cromadex 2K paint in RAL 9010 white. Cromadex paint in RAL 9010 white was the alternative to powder coating used by Precision and Elite Antennas if they ever had the need for a white coloured wet finish.

I have the Precision Antennas catalogue dated 14th October 1997 and there are no dish sizes listed between 3.7m and 4.5m. However, as you say, Precision would have been able to manufacture custom sizes to order.
