Has anyone still got use for a functioning analogue LT-8700.
Am now digital, but still miss the Echostar for its satellite finding softwar,e and the radio zapper. Also a very sturdy motor positioning system with a 36volt supply.
Weighs 5kg.
Can be picked up (Ipswich) or posted for standard postal costs.

Didn't they have a digital plugin module or was that a Monterey thing? Can certainly still be used as a positioner but I guess it was do Vbox-type functions.

It was the Monterey that I think you're remembering.

Having said that there was an interface board that could be fitted to a digital Nokia (9800 I think) allowing it to control a positioner using the LT8700. ISTR it wasn't cheap though.

Hi billiescot & flash,

do you still have those Echostar 8700s available to give away? If you do, can you let me know, please? I`ll pay shipping to co. Armagh (PayPal, cash as recorded delivery letter or money transfer) and I hope you do not mind my location in N. Ireland....

Many thanks.

Regards

Hi Satosk

Sorry for the delayed response as I had almost given up.

I would post to you when given an address and e-mail.

I would only need refund of postage if it arrives intact and works If it arrives broken just recycle locally,

Let me know if it is still required.

Regards
Billiescot.

Hi Everyone,

Now disposed of the Echostar so this post is finished as far as I am concerned.

Many thanks for the interest.

Hi Billiescot,

I`ve been waiting for your reply, unfortunately when you replied I wasn`t here for several days... Has it really gone for good?

Is there anybody else who has a positioner that is not used anymore and will be so kind to give it away for the shipping price?

I will be thankful for any reply.

Many thanks

Would be great if someone modded this receiver to receive digital TV. How difficult would it be to change out the electronics and design something that would fit and work?

A little less analogue, and a lot more crap.

The 8700 was I believe fitted in Scandinavian countries with a board for MAC transmissions, and so the interface is in there.

Digital reception however requires a different front end, in particular a demodulator circuit that couples with the tuner, the pcb in an echostar of this age would be designed around an analogue tin can (Sharp ?) whose output goes directly to the baseband processing circuit.
