EUTELSAT 5 WEST A (STELLAT-5) has ceased working in geostationary orbit @ 5 west,
Launched on the 7th July 2002 with a designed life of 15 years extended by 5 years until today 24th Sept 2020,
As E5WA has very little fuel left the next destination will be the graveyard orbit.

Stellat 5 was one of the first satellite launches I watched live. Its sad the old girl is finished - the signals were always super powerful off Eut 5WA.

Finally about a week ago, Eutelsat 5 West A was raised well above graveyard altitude.

Electrical damage, the odd meteor strike and general decay.

Good binoculars needed.

The last commands uplinked will have been to open all fuel dumps to vent remaining propellant to space (ensuring no accidental explosions), turn all payloads off then short out the batteries (again to ensure no accidental explosions).

At that point shes finished - destined to spend eternity circling the world.
