Hi all,

Is Eutelsat W3C really at 16.0°E ???

I have been checking the Longitude of this satellite all week... and it looks like it's been stationed at a new position now... or is this just a temporary adjustment...?

Eutelsat W3C at 14.5°E

Has anyone else noticed this...?

Best Wishes,
Zorch

The problem is known for many weeks already at Celestrak (distributor or TLE data), it appears there is some database error at Eutelsat.
Probably it's Sesat slowly drifting West, and W3C stable on 16.0°E.

Lately I maintain a list of half the Clarke-Belt, maybe you're interested:

hvdh : are you sure about that?
Because other tracking services report W3C at 14.2 east for quite some time

If W3C wasnt slotted at 16E all the eastern European dishes aligned at 16E wouldnt be getting any signal and there would be uproar! :D

It'll be an error in the tle files - its not unknown for them to be wrong - and many of the sites will use the same source so if the tle is wrong all the sites using that source will be wrong as well...

Its more believable than W3C being parked in the wrong place and no-one has reported losing any signals off her/

Well i just checked and what do you know, its still in the same place that W2 was in :-lmao

Now its either that my dish has moved and by sheer luck it moved to the same place that W3C is reported to be at which is doubtful or that its exactly where it should be at 16e.

I know which one i'm going for and its not 14.5e

Well, seems like there is a certain problem here
Following below are the latest NORAD data regarding W3C which show clearly that this bird is NOT AT 16.0 east
This is so UNLESS the data from NORAD is totally messed up....which is unlikely to happen

This is just the last couple of days, the list is much longer...

So how-come I did an install last week with a 3 degree monoblock on an 80cm dish and was able to receive both 13e Hotbird and 16e Eutelsat?

I'd imagine there'd be a lot of angry Albanians if it really did move...

Its common sence Shavit, if the satellite wasn't where it was supposed to be nobody with a static dish pointing at 16e would get anything.

I mean come on 3 million Albanians can't be wrong can they :-lmao

Unless you have secretly gone round europe and adjusted every dish to 14.5 degrees there would be an uproar as 3 million Albanians couldn't watch their TV, and i wouldn't have been watching Digitalb this morning.

The Americans as everybody knows aren't infallible and they do get things wrong more often than they would like to admit to. Just because their pulished data is incorrect you can guarentee that the data they use for thereselves isn't.

If W3C was not at 16e we would be getting jot, but as my setup clearly showed me this morning its still at 16e. I use a 1m dish for 16e. one and a half degrees would be out of the angle of acceptance for that dish, if the satellite was at 14.5 degrees i would be getting nothing. How does your data explain that :confused

Shavit, again, the Celestrak operator himself told me the distributed TLE's of Eutelsat @ 16 degrees are wrong, and for weeks he's trying to get this corrected. So have patience. :)

Just to prove a point i set up one of my old receivers up this morning, setup USALS and told it to go to 14.5e and do a blind scan. Strangely enough it didn't find anything.

Point made me thinks :D

Don't worry guys!! My dish is still pointing to W3C at 16 degE and i'm still receiving Canalsat and Parabole Reunion.
Why argue? just point your dish to it....

Hi again all,

It seems like I have started a bit of an argument here with my original post... sorry about that guys... I have always believed the Longitude positions shown on the 'n2yo' website to be true and accurate... but having read through all of the comments on this thread... I have also come to the conclusion that they must have got it wrong...

Best Wishes,
Zorch

It is - up to a point. For example you cant trust it when broadcast satellites are being moved around as the tle's are very often a few days out of date. We saw this when 1N was being manoeuvred into place at 28E. There was some very excited people on the DS forum declaring 1N had overshot 28E - they had forgotten the figures are extrapolated not live :D

At last the TLE's seem to be fixed! So now we have:
14.5°E: Eutelsat Sesat (incl. 0.3°)
15.8°E: Eurobird 16 (incl. 0.4°)
16.0°E: Eutelsat W3C
