Thanks so much Fuzzy Duck. I'm off to France at the end of May - not sure whether to order online or wait to see if I can pick one up while I'm there yet.

Anybody tell me the difference between TNT (19e) and Fransat (5w)) Both give the same 22 channels as far as I can see
from their publicity. What do French sales staff say to customers who pose this question? 19e has about the same coverage as 5w over France. Why do the French need two satellites ?

There were historically far more analogue satellite dependent viewers in France spread over the two satellite positions than in England and this is just the way it's worked out, I guess rather than make people put up new dishes or move existing ones, they kept to the two satellites.

To further confuse things there's also BisTV on 13E. They charge €4.90 for 38 channels (which includes the 22) but then for a further €4.90 you can have either 3 additional movie channels or 2 adult channels or for €13.90 you can have the lot saving €0.70 per month - whoopee! Doesn't have to make sense....it's French. If you already have a dish then you'd probably stick with that but for the newcomer, once you've made the choice there's a chance to sell additional channels

My Fransat card seems to need updating and i don't have an official receiver , will it update in Cristor or a TM-5400 ?
And how long will it take to update please ?

Glad the PM helped :D

I'm guessing Fransat changed the AESKey which is why it stopped working.

The thing is the card didn't need updating , it was just not opening the channels after i loaded the latest firmware on the receiver back in May ish , but i didn't check then as the channels open by EMU anyway .

They released a patched software as the Fransat was knocked out but i must have missed it , so i posted on the forum and got the solution right away .

Thanks .

By way of information for anyone needing original 4-year TNTSAT cards, they can be had new and unactivated on ebay.fr from several sources for around €25 plus €1.35 shipping within Europe. Search for "carte neuve tnt sat". Otherwise, anyone with a French credit card/address can order new TNTSAT cards directly from TNTSAT for only €15 post-paid - a good friend in France also works nicely...
FRANSAT cards are more difficult to come by, sometimes available used on ebay.fr for €30-50, but you need to confirm whether or not they are HD, as loads of the older SD cards are still circulating. These are of course valid for life, or until FRANSAT decides otherwise.
PS: has anyone had experience with the FRANSAT Neotion CI+ module? They are available for less than €100 including an HD card, but only work in selected Samsung TVs with built-in card slots.

You can use Fransat cards in the Cristor Atlas range of receivers with the third party Kyng firmware installed.

What about TNTSAT cards, any way to make them work in the CI+ module?

No idea if a TNTSat CI+ module is available, although i'm sure you can only get one for DVB-T transmissions not satellite ones. I know you can get one for Fransat on 5w for definite.
