Apologies, I'm not very techo savvy so in need of some advice. Had a satellite and technomate 5420 HD receiver installed and am fairly disappointed with the number of channels available. I really want to get more French channels (French freeview if possible?) - I assumed I need some kind of card? Can anybody confirm if I do in fact need a certain card and if so which one will be compatible with my technomate? Any help would be great. Thanks

Welcome to the forum! :)

For TNTSat (19E) or Fransat (5W) you will indeed need a card - and an official receiver.

Easily & cheaply available from french hypermarkets all along the coast - or from a contact within the country.

You could also try other satellites - Swiss version of seceral of the French channels are available on 9E in the clear.

It sounds like I should sell my technomate and purchase a tntsat receiver..
Although will certainly try the Swiss satellite option

TV Corner are doing a deal at the moment on Fransat cams and cards.

Code:
http://www.tvcorner.com/product_info.php/cPath/21_202_294/products_id/949

I've used them before with out any issues what so ever. With that cam and card combo you will be able to use your receiver on 5w to get Fransat. You can get 5w with a Sky Minidish as its really strong over the UK, you will however have to re-align the dish on 5w

Had some conflicting info as the TV corner guys seem to think my TM-5402-HD M2 CI super+ won't work with Fransat
They suggest I need to go down the Bis subscription rout
When you suggest go for 5.ow my satellite says Atlantic bird not Hotbird
My Hotbird setting is 13.0E
Assume I select 5.0w regardless of name?
The best level and quality I have seems to be Astra 19.2
Sorry to ask so many questions
Cheers

What size dish, and set up, do you have? Do you have a motorized dish?
Your profile only lists Astra Satellite.
You can find a full listing of the Fransat package, on 5W, in the link below:

I can't find the invoice anywhere so cannot tell what kind of sat I have. It looks fairly fixed up on the side of the house and is about the same size as the sky satellite - doesn't look motorised but wouldn't know how to tell. However if I goto the settings on technomate menu I can select either satellite settings or motorised setting and go for multiple satellite options with each one giving me varying %ages of both Level and Quality. Does this mean its motorised?

Pretty sure it's not motorised as the signal is only good on Astra
Options seem to be to get the dish moved to 5w to pick up a v small handful of French channels fr2, fr3 and TV5 Monde or buy a bis cam and card (just had this confirmed from technomate customer services)

Hello, am also planning (very slowly) on getting more French channels, have settled for a dedicated 5° W dish (around 75cm here) + a 'real' Fransat labeled receiver to avoid any possible hassle (something like this) + external HD. Will work out of the box and no interfering with the current dish setup.

Cost approx 250.- euro, which, if working for let's say 4 years, will be 0,175 euro\day to get all these channels :O)

FTA on 5W there are 11 French channels including two regional. On 9E you can get the Swiss versions (in French) of M6, TF1, W9 and 6TER. All FTA plus M6, TF1 and 6TER are available in HD

If the op opts for a single dish on 5w, some channels are lost without a Fransat card, Arte, BFM tv, D17, may matter or not. A combination of free channels from several sat positions is a good option. In my case there are a few channels I want which are only on Fransat.

This topic got me up from the sofa :O)

Preparing for a Fransat box I mounted my old 90cm motor prime for 5W testing, easy setup with strong signal on FTA channels. May get the motor going to have a go at 12034 V on 9° E as well.

And 19.2 TNT > http://www.tntsat.tv/chaines-tv-services-tnt-sat/chaines-gratuites-tnt.htm is also a viable alternative.
9E is great for free French TV, including now MezzoHD if you like classical music. The fact that the versions are Swiss just means that some of the commercial breaks have adverts for the Swiss market. The programmes are unchanged!
Fransat on 5W has a card which lasts "for ever" but go for the HD version as it's future proof, and some channels are HD only.

The topic gave more ideas (and more expenses :)),today locally came across a SH Wavefrontier 90cm, good priced incl. 4 single LNB's & sturdy wall mount. For fun, challenge & mystery (understood it needs some expertise for adjusting), will someday have a go for 19, 13, 9 E & 5W.

A toroidal may be one of the options for the OP to get all the FTA French ch's, 55cm probably OK in the UK so just one quite small dish & a diseqc switch for the Technomate.

Following on from a recent post I have bought a Cam and Bis card and had my satellite repointed to 13.0E Hotbird.
There is now a really strong signal with lots and lots of channels.
However I can still not get any of the French channels I am expecting via Bis?
The channels such as M6 and France 2 are not even appearing in the menu let alone as Scrambled channels.
Can anyone help confirm the exact transponder code required.
I've tried 10.719 v / 27.5
Many thanks

10719 V 27500, 0n 13E, is for the Polish channels, not French.
France 2 and M6 are listed on 11681 H 27500 DVB-S2 8PSK 3/4

Thanks for the responses
How do I manually type in these transponder codes into my technomate?
The engineer showed me quickly but I can't seem to do it anymore
Anyone know the steps to take please?
Thanks
