I have several universal remotes (Sony, One For All and other cheapies including a couple of learning remotes) which I will try whem recorder arrives (should be by early next week) but this is a dual function box - CD player and MD revorder (copies CDs to MD which is what I want to use it for) - and past experience with universals on such boxes (double deck CD recorders, CD to HDD recorders and VHS to DVD recorder) usually only operates half the box at a time and often only basic functions are supported (playback or recording but not simple copying or editting)

Well, a universal remote is your best choice at the moment.
Good luck
I too have found Logitech Harmany remotes to be the best in terms of the pre-programmed functionality, I have had to teach my Harmony Touch very, very little from any genuine remote. Could be you best bet, although these are not cheap..

I agree.
This link shows that all harmony products support the Grundig MDC-65
I bet it is cheaper to buy it than an original remote that is not available anywhere.
Device Compatibility
When I type the Grundig model, I get

Grundig MDC-65
All Harmony products can control this device
This device is supported.

In addition, you can use the Logitec 650 to control 7 more devices.

Link shows that it also requires Harmony hub??
