Has anyone experienced OUT OF INDEX problem on the unit. Cannot gain access to any menus and when trying to record it just reboots the unit?

Are there a lot of Series Link type recordings/schedules that may have expired?

Sounds like it needs a thorough "weeding" to me.

There may be, i am happy to clear all the memory from it but i cant get into any of the menu's to reset it. In each line of text on any menu it just has the 'out of index' text

Ah.

Are you able to access the menu structure leading to a Factory Reset?

You'll lose all your recordings/schedules etc., but it's probably an essential step now.

Then all I can suggest is you contact Humax Technical Support.

I did scout around for other references to this issue and there are one or two reported instances but no solution provided.

Have you tried loading the firmware back in using a memory stick ?

(edit) the download page from Humax suggests there is also an RS232 port, not sure about that.

That link is for a Terrestrial PVR.

The Foxsat HDR does not have RS232 (I've just crawled on the floor and looked at mine!)

This is the correct link for the Foxsat HDR _http://www.humaxdigital.com/uk/support/downloadcenter_model.aspx?category_seq=65

Then their website linking system is up the spout

'New software for FOXSAT-HDR - Nov 26, 2009', takes you to terrestrial updates.

Graham, get a stick and try it according to the instructions

GrahameC - did you get any fix for this problem? I've just encountered the same problem for my Humax Foxsat.
I get the 'Out of Index' message displayed on the Menu options, and the machine reboots if I try to access upcoming Guide or existing Media list.

The new Doctor Who series begins over the Easter hols and my kids will go mad if we can't record.
Please let us all know if your problem was resolved, and if so, how was it resolved

Even Humax Tech.Support haven't been able to come up with a user applied fix for this issue but they have been known to respond by providing free exchange units, outwith the Warranty.

Best guess is that it is a hard disk issue.
