I noticed that my box which is normally left on standby had the display showing all 00.00 . I turned off @ the power switch and then turned it back on. The blue light around the OK button is on but the display is blank and there appears to be no signal. Help please, what can I do?

I assume you're hinting at the short-circuit protection having operated?

Seems possible. Prove by disconnecting cable at the rear and see if it will then power up.

If so, in addition to checking connections, look for signs of cable damage (physical and/or water ingress).

The capacitor C201 in the power supply sometimes fails in these receivers after a time, leading to this problem.

It's a 2200uF 10V electrolytic, which you can either replace yourself or take to a TV repair shop (an expensive option).

Thank you for the suggestions.
I have disconnected the cable and switched the unit on. There was no display but again the blue light around the OK button came on. Does the short-circuit protection reset automatically?
Llew ,is there anyway of confirming whether this capacitor has failed ?

With electrolytics, sometimes a visual check will show electrolyte leakage or swelling, but often nothing will be seen. The only way to be sure is to check with an ESR meter for a possible high ESR value.

Best to replace it though if you have the means to do so.

Hi Allan ..
I hate to see you struggle ..
If Llew is correct ...then this _is_ a job you can do yourself ..
Providing you have the tools and the confidence .
If you don't want to attempt it yourself ...I'll happily pop you a new cap in your psu for a tenner..
(assuming thats all it is)
and ..I'll do it while you wait to save you a return journey
Thats m8's rates..
;)
you will have to bring it to my shop ..but its way across Manchester ..
M27
..and I cannot guarantee it will solve your problem.
If its something else entirely then its a whole other ballgame..as it were.

@ Llew..is the psu on a seperate pcb in this receiver ...or part of the main board ?

On the power board VS. It's the 2.5V supply smoother.

Just checked mine, I have a revised (or earlier?) power board, and is a 1000uF 10V cap (C24).

I'm not saying this is the culprit for certain, just that several members of other sites have successfully cleared the fault by replacing this cap.

Thanks for the info Llew..
Well the offer stands ..If Alan doesn't want to tackle this himself I'll swap out the cap in question ...but obviously ..if the fault is elsewhere ...I'd have to reconsider..
Time is money as they say.
..and fault finding takes time ..

Thanks for the information both of you and for the offer VS. I will have the box open and identify the component before deciding on a course of action.
