Has a mark on it, which looks like it is integral hardware damage, but has anyone seen anything like this before ?

No satellite stuff for the moment (aside from a 43cm minidish that was on the house already), Samsung SyncMaster T27B550 Smart TV & Monitor, and a few computers...

Looks like impact or pressure damage to me, new panel time, unless she can put up with the splodge, which'll probably expand over time... :)

She might have slammed it shut on something sitting on the keyboard, but there is no mark or indent on the plastic screen that I can see.

Pushing the screen elsewhere results in the usual colour changes expected of pressure of a display, though the official specifications from Dell suggest this is a CCFL backlit screen.

A pity, it had the best appearance of any laptop I have owned.

I can, now it's turned off , see a darker section of the screen compared to the rest so it looks like the liquid crystal section has been permanently damaged.

OpenBox X5 on a 1 meter motorized dish.
And now a 10 foot "C" band dish.

Deep in the Boonies in the central Sierra Nevada mountains of California.
It's impact or compression damage to the liquid crystal display, seen this many times on laptops owned by kids, dropping something on it, throwing something at it,(accidentally) it dropping off the desk or even sitting something heavy on the top of it can cause this, (on the newer thinbooks) a new LCD top end would cost almost as much as a new one now days with all the Xmas deals going on.

A CCFL type screen is an older unit, it may be time for a nice Xmas gift in the stocking.

Somewhere in England (possibly?)!
Can probably find a s/h one on ebay quite easily/cheaply - the challenge is then to actually fit it without breaking something else!

She has a tablet, and a Nintendo thing, courtesy of some other Xmas gifts in the past, so regardless of the - free - programmes she has been gifted with on a PC, it's time to
