Why bother with an outdated (50 year old) technology for extra cost.
I think it's a useful thing to have for viewing and controlling the box from another room without having to pay even more cash for a "proper" multi-room sub. They clearly did this in anticipation of Sky Q....

I still use mine - I have a cable running from downstairs box to my man-cave/office. As I am more or less alone during the day, it's perfect for me.

Until the wife comes home.

Outdated tech often retains usefulness. qv Infernal Combustion Engine, for starters.

Surely, a G-Wizz is a quantum leap in automotive tech?

You might think that; I couldn't possibly say.

Mind you, Bambi drives one.

I'm living in Sweden and have now invested in a Raven (CM) 1,8 dish and am finally able to get Astra 2G and therefor the BBC HD channels. Currently I'm using the Pace 2600 c1 that have served me very well. I'm now thinking of getting a used Sky+ HD box. How can I upgrade my subscription to cover HD channels since Sky Q obviously is out of the question here in Sweden?

Buy a standard HD box from one of the auction sites (or if you have friends / relatives in the UK you can often get them from the local cash converter store or car boot sale). Then upgrade your subscription in the usual way

Thank you for a quick reply!
The problem is that in my SD account setting at the option for upgrading is: "Please call 0800 151 2747"
I like to keep the direct telephone contact with Sky to a minimum so Sky do not find out that the box isn't situated in London with my
brother in law (also a Sky costumer).
If a Sky HD box works with my existing SD viewingcard and can receive the FTA HD channels that would as an alternative that was OK.
Does anybody know if that is the case?

Yes that will work fine - we dont have the HD pay channels activated but the fta ones work fine. You will find the various HD channels will be on the SD version of the epg so will be lower down the epg in many case. Easy enough to get around by using the blue favourites button.

You will need to pair the card with the new box for some of the pay channels to work..

If you want to record you will need to ask for the Sky+ feature to be activated. When I upgraded boxes I did that via the online chat on the MySky website

Or just get a Freesat receiver.
Unless there is something specifically on Sky you need (eg Sports channels).
Do you have any Sky sports or movie channels?

That wont be such a problem nowadays - apart from limited circumstances Sky are not supplying standard HD boxes. Just the Q boxes - which should not be sold on as they are the property of Sky at all times

Is it possible to start a new subscription to Sky+HD. We just moved into a house with Sky+HD already connected up with no card. I have no intention of signing up to Sky Q!

It 'should' be able to, since there are many sites where SkyQ cannot be installed.

Is there any examples? Sky said they can only sell me the Q box

Tell them you have legally bought an HD box (they can be sold legally by the "original owner" - assuming "he actually bought, not nicked, it:-rofl2) - and you just want to take out the relevant SD or HD subscription.

Ask them if they will install a SkyQ dish on top of a four storey building where the existing HD dish with four wire cables already come into the loft space, your tv is already installed, and there is Sat/tv/Dab diplexed into six other rooms with a perfectly acceptable distribution system, earth bonded to the modern requirements for your house insurance.
