Yes! Since leaving the EPG and hence saving the Murdoch tax it seems it has become more difficult to receive it on s_y boxes. Quote from Peter Moore the sation manager;

"It was not known by us, nor our provider, that Sky had hardened their attitude to non EPG signals. We found that no Sky SD boxes would get our signal at all. Sky had nil interest in sending a software signal to make the boxes hear us. Then we found that each time they sent a general update to the HD boxes, this wiped the stored memory so that the listener had to go through the tuning process all over again and again."

We love Sky, don't we children? It is a real pity that most people believe Sky (and a sub) is the only way to receive satellite broadcasts, or else this would not be happening.....surely it must be borderline re legality

Oh dear, that's REALLY bad news as I listen to Caroline all the time when I'm down in France. Even the other half, who normally thinks my taste in music is too loud, will tolerate Carolione as it often plays 60s music amidst the excellent mix.

And what's this about SD boxes? I use several SD $ly boxes down there and I have no problem.

Although I listen to Caroline in the Internet as well as satellite in the UK, I don't really want to go the Internet route in France as, with only a 2Mbps download speed at best, I don't have a lot of bandwidth to spare.

No problem here either. I use the "other channels" all the time on both SD and HD boxes and they have never been wiped.

I seem to remember that the issue of non-EPG Channels being lost after eg Firmware Upgrades was largely (if not always) due to the small amount of Memory available for User Added stuff on early BSkyB Boxes.

It was something oft reported when I was active on DS some years ago, but I don't recall any recent reports on any Forum. Perhaps because newer Hardware will be more Memory-rich innately?

Me neither (except I don't have any $ly HD boxes)

Apparently, the other way round. I emailed Radio Caroline and received a reply from Bob Squirrell. Part of follows:

I think the problem with Sky boxes applies to newer ones. As Peter Moore says it seems to be a deliberate change of policy to make things difficult if the station is not listed on their very expensive EPG.

Naturally, I only have old $ly boxes.

I think the explanation is something to do with the frequency RC use. They use the Freesat home tp - 11428H

Im pretty sure that one doesnt go through the Sky adaptation hub(s) that control access to Sky's epg infrastructure which can cause problems.

There are only 3 broadcast services on 11428, Fashion One TV, Rad Caroline & NKWA Radio - none of which are on the Sky epg.

Caroline moved there after they dropped their 0199 Sky epg slot.
