Hello good evening!
i have bought,the Slinbox Classic,on Ebay Usa 2 days ago,for 130$ including airshiping,now i look,any source on the net,where i can get acces,to us televsions channels!

what downstream ,is needed, for slingbox pro useres,to watch Hd Tv?

,in Austria,at moment 4 MBIT,over dsl,is the higest,what i can get,for 50€/month!
upload spped not good only 512 kb:(

are they any other difrents, between, slingbox pro,and classic?

A slingbox is used to send channels from your own TV receiver (Satellite, Cable or Terrestrial) to your computer over the internet, rather than watching other people's paid for TV which probably would change channel part-way through...

As for the HDTV questions, personally I'm not too sure, but it's probably pretty bandwidth-consuming to send a full size HDTV source over the net...

Just as a follow up to this, I bought a slingbox a couple of months ago and have had it running quite happily from Galashiels (near Edinburgh) to Brighton (south of London).

Here is BgonaStick's comments about the experience running my dreambox :)

I've seen Sling working from Ontario to Madrid quite well. Resolution is acceptable, you wouldn't want to watch a feature film on it.
The big drawback is that you need bandwidth to spare. When your neighbours come home from work and all switch on their PCs the speeds can plummet.
Watch your bandwidth usage as well, with mine I have to pay extra over an agreed limit. Just watching a few youTube videos and BBC News 24 can push you over a limit in a few days.

I've used a trial stream and have a similar impression, not bad for watching on the equivalent to a 12" TV, so really only for things which you desperately need to watch.

has anyone had experience of the Slingbox that connects direct to the TV, is it on the market yet?

If it is on the market what upload and downloads speeds are people using for good reception?

Cheers

About 500kbps upload is the absolute minimum you can get away with - and the faster the better.

The Slingbox itself simply pushes whatever is connected to it onto the internet. On the receiving end, you'll need a computer or laptop with software installed called the SlingPlayer to watch the content from the Slingbox over the internet.

Most people will happily watch stuff on their computer screens, some plug their PCs to their TV screens (like I do) to get the content onto the TV. It's quite messy to be honest, but Sling Media are releasing their 'SlingCatcher' later this year which will plug directly into your TV and work as a reverse-slingbox. You computer wont even need to be switched on! Pretty cool. It has always been the missing piece of the jigsaw if you ask me.

Honestly AS, it's works a treat on a 15 inch flat screen for well over a year without problems with the rates above :)

They make out it's easy to set up but in reality it's a pain, I had to open a port on my BT homehub which was very complicated. Once set up it works fine, i've got it connected to my Humax PVR 9200T and I can record and play remotely aswell as watching Freeview, I used it on a recent trip to France and it was OK although the remote jumps 2 channels at a time but get roundable. The upload speed is the critical factor, mine works well on 385 kb contrary to a previous poster who said you need a minimum 500kb. Bought mine from PC World for about £95.

hello,
we tested the sling box service last year and it works good.
this is MPEG-4 h2224 so you don't need 3 to 4 meg/sec but less.
we tested hosting in the usa to see how hbo(home box office) worked and it came well.
we ran 900k/s and after 5 seconds it was up to 1.4meg/sec and after a min it was running 1.9 to 2.2 meg/sec.
i took the computer and extended the a/v cables to my 29 inch tv and it was verry watchable.

you up load must be good so a sling hosting service is a must and will cost.
there is hosting service in the uk that will send freeview bbc1 itv free for a price and theu upload at 2 m/s or better.
price is not known but you can check.

there are usa sling hosting as well and the price may be 170 dollars per month as well.
the uk freeview was about 40 pounds and if you wanted sky it was more.

check your internet speed test we here has 7 meg down and 250k up.
we tested it and its 4 meg down and 240k up.

if you need more information i can look again for the sling provider uk.
sling has a sling solo you connect it to the router hub and it has a/v out to the tv.
ralph:)
