Hi,

However I have some past experience with satellite dish alignment, I would need some help. My new house is in front of a lot of new trees and the only possibility to install a satellite antenna is to position it far on top of the roof (of course, respecting the height required by law). To put it like that, I need to fix a rod on the house's wall (ideally). All good but the alignment is impossible as I can not put any ladder to align it. I was thinking to put a H-H mount but its movement is elliptical (it moves according spherical coordinates which is perfectly logic once you fixed a satellite). My question is, is there any mount which moves the antenna in x-y coordinates remotely? I would like to move it in that position and keep it fixed, so it should not be a rocket science. I would be grateful if anyone would have any idea.
Big thanks,
Sorin

There was a motor called the Jaeger 1224 EL, that allowed you to move your dish East-West and tilt it up/down:
SMR 1224 EL.jpg

This was mainly used to lock onto satellites that wobbled, in the satellite arc.

I doubt you can get hold, of one of these, but you could use two superjack motors, one to move the dish East-West and a second to adjust the elevation. There are a number of these, posted on the forum.
Are you sure you need to place the dish that high?
Have you checked with sites, like dishpointer.com, to check how high you would need to put the dish to avoid the trees causing a problem?
With most dishes being offset people tend to overestimate the clearance required, but if you live in a valley, or the trees are that high up, then you might have a problem.

What size dish are you planning to use? Solutions for dual axis motorisation re Azimuth and Elevation can be dependent on the dish size.

The Jaeger 1224 that was referred to earlier should be capable of dual axis motorisation for dish sizes up to 1.5m, possibly larger depending how exposed the dish is to wind. Although no longer in production, the Jaeger 1224 motors sometimes pop up second hand on eBay. However, models in good condition have been know to sell for more than their original purchase price.

All good but the alignment is impossible as I can not put any ladder to align it.
If alignment is "impossible", how would you think to get the dish there anyway?
Maybe there are ways to "align" the dish first time right, when setting it all up.

When you say you want to move x-y coordinates, do you mean azimuth, elevation, or both?

The other possibility is to align the dish on a perfectly plumb mast somewhere where you can see the satellite, mark the dish when aligned and then install the mast perfectly plumb on the house and simply rotate for correct azimuth. I've done this successfully with Sky mini dishes, larger dishes would be more difficult, but still possible.

What is stopping you putting a ladder (or some other platform) near where you require the dish ?

Post a couple of pictures and someone here may have a light bulb moment.

Thanks a lot! Indeed this is the best solution if I can find a second hand Jaeger 1224 EL. If not, two superjack motors would do the job.
Indeed I did not check dishpointer.com but I can clearly see I have signal just between the trees (e.g. Hispasat) . I am thinking to put neat the LNB a collimated strong LED (as laser pointers are illegal), set the elevation and azimuth and see where I have problems and how tall I need to install it. Am I right? I think it is not a bad idea..

Both azimuth and elevation. I said X-Y because I need a linear movement not a movement in circular coordinates. Maybe my explanation is not all right, but you know what I mean..
To get the dish up is not hard as I can fix it on the metal rod and afterwards I can pop in the rod in the holder already fixed on the house's wall.
