There is certainly a lot of interest from various nations in building a radio telescope farside to shield it from the rf pollution generated here.

Are they to look out though?

Yet across the gulf of space, minds that are to our minds as ours are to those of the beasts that perish, intellects vast and cool and unsympathetic, regarded this earth with envious eyes, and slowly and surely drew their plans against us.

Typical BBC, cannot be bothered to verify what they think the Chinese authorites released so I can only suspect the report lost something in translation.
The Beeb reported "On Tuesday, Chinese state media said the cotton seeds had now grown buds. "

The most that the seeds could have done is absorbed water swollen and germinated to produce a radicle (root) the stalk and primary leaves will be another few weeks, it takes 12 - 16 weeks to produce the buds they reported"

A blog with all the images taken to date.

Day 5 on the dark side of the moon commenced a few days ago, the mission is now a month over the designed life of the craft.
