Sky dish connected to Humax HB1100s. Toshiba TV.
My Location
Stowmarket, Suffolk.
As jeallen01 has said I'm not totally bowled over with it. There are quite a few channels missing i.e. Horror and Horror +1. Also absolutely no epg, not even now and next!
oh well, my thanks to you all anyway.
P.s. The fault with it not seeing my dish was totall y down to me. If I'd have been more careful when I first switched on I would have had no issues! Doh!

By coincidence a client of mine took charge of an LG tv (4k) this week and regardless of the settings or transponder edits, nothing will make it see a Hotbird enabled dish outside, despite it working fine on the analyser and another meter .

So, I have to return to take it off the new wall mount, pull the cables out of the wall and from the cabinet below, box up and then come back when the supplier has delivered a replacement.

You should be able to get the missing Channels by adding the relevant Transponder to the list (or updating the stored one) viz. 11345 V 27500 QPSK

Well, the fact that when you have just one cable coming to your receiver, might easily suggest that you have to choose an option like 'Unicable' or Onecable or something like that (in TVs, the term Unicable is often 'translated'), as you just have one cable. So you can easily be fooled by a name like Unicable!

You were by no means the first one that was fooled. Even in German forums, where the Unicable system is more often used, it seems, people easily make that mistake.

Seems that I should not bother with any more attempts to get the sat tuner working on our new LG - not that I was going to:rolleyes:

Full list of the channels on Astra 2 at 28E here on Flysat - so look through that and add the transponders for the channels that you want to watch.

My LG tv (didn't even know about the sat tuner before I got it home!), deep inside the clumsy menus there's a well working blind scan, slooooowly churns through low V then H, then high V&H, takes ages but finds every transp. I'd guess any modern sat-tv will have this, should sort out any channel problems.

I will provide the detail of the specific model that requires two callbacks, based on the fault identified above when I return

I didn't take much notice the first time round, since it should have been a simple 'fit and forget' type of install, but from memory the box showed 43un816....

When I get the go ahead to return you can swing by to give some sage advice on how to avoid the same minefield of the trade, gratis as per the spirit of the forum.

Agreed. I set up my Zero box as a slave receiver for when the boss wants to watch something different but she is clueless on how to use it.

Yes, there was blind scan ( and I tried that , plus editing the transponders , along with moving the prealigned dish around, plus resetting to factory, no go) .

The menus were different though, and the remote was horrible with a flick mouse thing inside the OK button.

Well, the last time I tried to log into this thread to comment (around 11pm last night), I found it to have been locked, so I posted the question "Why and by Whom? was it locked, as then was the latter thread and then again "version 2" thereof! I'll never know why (but I have a very good idea of by whom!) and so I did'nt get to add a comment that I had in mind at the time - and now I've totally forgotten what I had meant to say! :-rofl2

So, back to the thread - any more thoughts on the good and bad points of sat tuners in TV's?

For my part, I think the biggest drawback - apart from the generally acknowledged difficulties in setting up and then using them - is that there is only one tuner in most TV's (certainly in the low-medium cost ones), and that means you can't watch one channel whilst recording another.

I have the Sony KD-43X8305C,which has two lnb inputs and works with diseqc/unicable
Lnb 1:28E lnb 2:19E/13E monoblock
However what I wasn’t aware of,prior to purchase was if you have YouView enabled,it disables the satellite tuner.
In order to use the satellite tuner, you have to disable the YouView feature.
The satellite tuner works fine, however reordering, deleting channels etc,was a nightmare,so I gave up using the satellite tuners
A channel editor program was introduced recently, which means the satellite channels can be edited, deleted etc more easily,on a pc and transferred using a USB stick, which means I am now using the satellite tuners again

Confirmed, the first set had a faulty tuner circuit, now replaced

Its still no charmer in the user friendly department though, trying to find out how to switch between satellite and terrestrial lists after 20 minutes

Is it not just a matter of switching between the inputs/source?

Possibly because many remote controls nowadays have so many layers of menu-driven button-presses that it is difficult to remember what to do??

On my LG, king of clumsy menus, the main input switching can only show 1 tuner source: antenna or cable or sat, according to what input mode one has chosen in submenus many clicks away.

LG seemingly expects people to only use one tuner source and stick with that, so don't provide an upfront tuner switching. So... main input menu will show Antenna - hdmi1 - hdmi2 etc or Satellite - hdmi1 - hdmi2 etc or Cable - hdmi1 - hdmi2 etc.

LG's current marketing "slogan" seems to be "LG" means that "Life's Great", but, IIRC, originally "LG" was short for "Lucky Goldstar" or something like that!

Frankly, whilst their sets are technically pretty good and I have few complaints about that aspect, the complexities of their user-facing menus, and the "quality" of their printed user "instructions", and their on-line support downloads, amount to "LG" meaning a "Load of Garbage" .
