Anyone ever used one of these ..?
I have been given a GPS/.Glonass U-Blox7 dongle ..
Looks like a usb pen drive ..
Yes I guess it is a bit silly to attach such a device to a stationary PC ...but was thinking this might actually be good at transferring accyrate positional data to PlanePlotter or similar apps which use Google Maps.
Plane Plotter has a GPS input option rather than manual input ..but is expecting a serial GPS device ...
No provision for USB.
I currently have it on a USB repeater extension cable hanging near a window and a green led on it is continually flashing ...so I guess it is active ..
the other end of the usb I have plugged in the Optiplex990 running Win7 64bit.
Sadly I can find and was not provided with any drivers ...but then perhaps windows recognises and has already installed this sevice ..
There appeared to be a moment of recognition when it was plugged in ...but no actual identification.
So ..is it or isn't it ?
This device is new to me ...but certainly I can't use it with PlanePlotter as it isn't accomodated..
Dont you just hate when new deices appear without installation software ...details ...apps or drivers etc..
Anyone ?

Driver here - Amazon link

Works well enough on Windows 10. Allowed me to use Microsoft Maps app for navigation on my Venue 8 pro.

If you want to use any modern apps on this GPS with Windows 7, 8 or 10, make sure you install the "ublox GNSS Sensor Driver v2.21 for Windows 10, 8.1, 8, 7" package from:
| u-blox

This is a "u-blox 7 GNSS", aka: "UBX-G7020" based device. You can and should use the drivers directly from the chip manufacturer. (See link above.)

Out of the box, the very first location lock can take quite some time. After installing the drivers, plug in the GPS and wait for the green light to start flashing. Took ~10 to 15 minutes on my first try. After that first lock, it now starts up from a cold state (being plugged in) and gets a location in around 5 to 10 seconds.
