My Satellite Setup
Technomate 2200 motor, technomate 5400 ci +USB, 90cm dish...
My Location
Surrey, UK.
Some time ago i bought and had a Humax IRCI 5400Z, manhattan disec 1.2, approx 90cm dish installed for me. Bought a titanium card, phoenix card programmer, think its a fun card or something similar. Then.... strong wind came moved the dish, no time to fix it and then we turned the bungalow into a house oh and whilst updating the emu or firm ware on the humax i caused it to freeze. All equipment left in the garden for a year !
Now....have had the dish and pole and manhattan thingumajig affixed to the wall but no attempt to align it...2 x cables hanging outside and inside the house with bare ends....
The requirements...
Primarily to have a motorised dish to access satellites that carry thai tv for my wife to watch.
Secondly, maybe a new receiver (possibly HD, but were watching a large CRT tv at the moment) that will let me watch lots of stuff and decode stuff that i'm not supposed to watch.
CAn you help...

Heathrow is about 10 miles from me, so within range.

Is the dish ground, wall or chimney mounted ?

What can't you get with it so far ?

I have a fixed dish (wall mounted)that can be used with astra, hotbird and sky.
Recently upgraded to sky hd and signal quality 75% ,with good signal quality.
However, on hotbird signal quality almost gone on 11411 and non existent on 12207. Ther is an issue with a tree which might be a cause, but other hotbird channels are working as are astra.
Do you come to slough area or can you recommend someone.
I think rolfw installed the original equipment a while back.

When was this ironick, can't recall doing one in Slough.

Both frequencies have an Intermediate frequency of around 1.6Ghz, could well be interference from a DECT phone, or some other wireless device.

Hi Rolfw,
it is a Viasat dish specifically designed for astra, sky and hotbird, so hopefully you may recall it. I believe it might be you and you were from Reading area and recommended by Viasat supplier. It might not be you, so apologies if it is'nt. The installation only just cleared the tree at the time and it has grown a lot in the last 4 years.
When our wifi box is off it makes no difference. The signal on these frequencies is so weak that it barely catches a signal and then it breaks up.

Rolf is probably slightly closer than I am (though I have installed similar systems in Windsor before now). Yours is not one of mine though.

Looks to me like you have 3 options

1) raise the dish
2) prune the tree
3) relocate the dish so it sees around the tree

Both 1 & 2 have the problem that the issue will come back in a few years and the job will need redoing.

I had a similar issue a few years ago, I ended up relocating the Sky dish halfway down the garden where it now happily sits bolted to a fence post with a nice clear view out to the south east :)

If it's the one I remember Ross, it is already at the bottom of the garden on the garden or garage wall.:)
