Well in the UK if you never watch the BBC and you never watch BBC iplayer and never watch live channels you do not need a TV licence.
I was staggered when I read this on MSE site, but it is genuine and has just been updated

Nothing odd about it. Stranger that TVLicensing (Capita) is no longer held to account, now that the BBC Trust has been disbanded. Their methods were never above board, it must be like the Wild West out on the streets now.

It does say "If you never watch live TV" (which means any channel NOT (just the BBC) or BBC iPlayer.

Always been the same, apart from them changing it to no iPlayer, not even iPlayer catchup.
Shocked how many people I know are misinformed, one friend told me they had one because they use YouTube and Netflix!

Quite right.

Far too many people, including Journos, continue to perpetuate the myth that it's a BBC Licence, on the grounds that the revenue helps fund the BBC.

What the Licence permits and where the revenue goes are separate issues and should not be conflated.

Tvlicensing do that by defailt, if more knew Capita were collecting purely for their shareholders wallets, with no care for the service or the distribution, they might think twice before blindly handing over a king's ransom.

I don't actually "Watch" TV, but because I look at live broadcasts I have to have a licence.

I do pay my French tv licence, it's included in my 'Council tax'. It is possible to opt out of paying by declaring you have no receiving equipment on the premises. In essence, in 17 years of living here, I've never heard of anyone coming round to check......there are it seems, advantages to living in the back of beyond..

We don't need a TV license anymore since about a year ago.
But I think that would gladly pay the British TV License if I was living in the UK.
