Just had a look at my XP machine it looks to be working alright.
For newbie Registery Hackers like me a bit more info.

Open windows Explorer( The file Browser) Click Tools,Folder Options.Click the View Tab.
Untick Hide extensions for known file types.Next right click on Desktop. Select, New,Text Document.Enter the name of the file as xp.reg.The icon image will change to a blue cube.Mine did so I did something right.
Now right click on the xp.reg folder, select edit.Enter the following.
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\WPA\PosReady]
"Installed"=dword:00000001
Save the file and shut down Notepad.
Double click xp.reg, and click yes to include in registery.click OK when you get conformation.
Now check that you are getting the updates.

People should be aware that microsoft may try to close this loophole. So should make sure that XP is actually updating.

EDIT - typo in the code corrected A/S
Many thanks, auto updates and firewall all OK again.
I use xp as part of a dual boot with vista, now vista works well I like to keep xp working on a separate hard drive as it contains my vista backup.

Before I left yesterday 8 updates had been installed, so thanks for that, I always like to have something working to go back to in case of problems

For some reason I thought this 'upgrade' might be restricted to XP Professional, however having put the .reg file into a client's PC, it appears the Home edition is also downloading the updates when asked to do so.

No satellite stuff for the moment (aside from a 43cm minidish that was on the house already), Samsung SyncMaster T27B550 Smart TV & Monitor, and a few computers...

Must say that I am also a Mac convert. As the hardware is expensive, I installed Mac OS, which is FREE, on my PC. Took a bit of huffing and puffing but it works well and is very stable.

I do have a few programs which require Windows but trying Mint now, so we'll see where I end up.

Yep, been there, done that, metaphorically crapped me pants in the process, my build room stunk after a PSU went up in smoke like that for a week...

Yep, seems to be doing the job, 6 updates for WEPOS and POSready, and two for .NET framework, they weren't there before... :D

Love this bit at the end ..
'Mr Jack died of a suspected accidental drugs overdose in 2013, just days before he was due to give a presentation on the weaknesses in medical devices.'
Yeah right ...

Truth is always stranger than fiction

....manufactured by Pace Medical and distributed in the UK by APC Cardiovascular.

The manufacturers have withdrawn the pacemaker after problems relating to the potential for loss of ventricular output or sensing failure in the pacemaker due to a soldering failure

Another set of XP updates appearing. This 'crack' appears to be working better than expected.

I had a couple of updates this week on my XP Home desktop - and I havent done any reg cracks to get them going again! ISTR they were C++ related, but I would have thought MS would have killed off all the XP updates......

Are you sure that it was the operating system that was being updated and not one of the applications?
