If you have to know, Friday & Saturday for me were spent dealing with this mess in order to get the dishwasher in, added the drainpipe for the washer, replaced a single socket with double, and tidied up the mess of spurred-off ring main wiring into a proper junction box rather than stuffed in the back of the single socket, the plastering though, ugh, forget it, stuff's so soft & rotten that you could probably use it to build a sandcastle!!! Just looking at the wall made it fall off it's that bad... :-wow
.....(pics deleted)...
Sunday was my day of rest cos my legs and back were biblically killing me from bending down and crawling about under the counter & sink to get everything done...
Well done for finally getting the d/w properly plumbed in (did the recent "discussion" on d/ws have anything to do with that?)!

OTOH, I can understand your plasterwork problems - had that in my Mum's old Cotswold stone cottage that had a lot of rising damp, and the same thing often happened there:-doh. PS: hope your electricty consumer unit has an RCD in it - seems you might need that at times!

Sympathy too with your back - same thing happens to me if I do anything like that:rolleyes:.

No satellite stuff for the moment (aside from a 43cm minidish that was on the house already), Samsung SyncMaster T27B550 Smart TV & Monitor, and a few computers...

I've been wanting to get it done for some time now, but the fact I had the weekend in the house to myself (so could turn off the power without complaint) meant I got to do it, even before the discussion, it just needed my brain to get into the right frame of mind to brave the plumbing...

The CU does indeed have an RCD, often being tested by my occasional idiocy, even while working on that spaghetti mess, I tripped it with touching Neutral to Earth (TT supply, so Earth literally is the Earth), necessitating the need for me to turn off all the power cos I'm a wuss... :-wow

Back's fine now, it was my legs that suffered the most this time, they say bend at the knees to save your back, but they never say how much damage it'll do to your legs though!!! :-lmao

@4wd
Somewhat share your observations/feelings about people not being interested in sat tech - in this area with a large population of those of Asian & Eastern European origin, they seem to be the only people with dishes other than just Zone 1 Sly ones pointed at 28E. Probably doesn't "help" that we generally have pretty fast broadband, although rarely fibre to premises.

As for the forum format issues, that's true of quite a few forums apart from this one, and I'm not sure what could be done about that (apart from simply dumping/archiving areas that are rarely if ever frequented - a possibility???)

Might help a bit if the What's new section wasn't quite so short unless you deliberately extend it.

Part of that "problem" is knowing where to look for what - might I suggest a top-level bookmarked site-map where one can actually see the overall structure, and thus immediately click on the link you want to reach?

Maybe thus, but the "plebs" (so, that includes me!) here mostly haven't any idea of what those suggestions were, or which ones are intended to be implemented, and/or when/how.

Part of, in fact a major part, of the problem to my mind is the latest implementation of the forum software which was introduced at the beginning of the year.

WELL, followed that link - and the last post there was Dec 2017 from ME, and nothing much about the site format as whole!
Paul's comment and my last one are more relevant, don't you think? - why "go around in circles"?

From what I read just now, that's just revisiting stuff that has already been discussed and decided upon by the Staff - so why can't the Staff just tell us what is planned, and when that is likely to be implemented?
PS: this was never where I envisioned this thread would/should be going - but that seems to be where it actually is!

Maybe it's better if the Membership at large let us know what they think would improve usability? Start from a blank sheet of paper, setting aside the if, buts and maybes of yore? (Good word, "yore". Must use it more often)

Yes, BUT, PaulR said that the Staff have already decided the planned "changes"! WHY do I NEED to repeat (or ask other to do the same!) what I said in Post #34!:(
PS: I am NOT trying to "target" the Staff as a whole or in particular, but just trying to find out what's likely to happen "as of now"!

News to me. As I said earlier, there were some suggestions mooted in the past but nothing happened. It's history.

So, let's forget what might, or might not, have been suggested, decided etc. and start with a clean sheet. With non-Staff input.

Take the opportunity to champion change :Y

Poor wording on my behalf. They're not changes to the forum structure per se but changes to the functioning of the forum software.

^^^^^^^^

Presactly - any further changes would take place from where we are now, not where we where then :)

OK and thanks, that "sort-of" clears up the current situation! Thus, tomorrow (hopefully!), I will start a suitable thread.
