Hi
Here are few questions before I decide to buy
What’s easily available on cband as I I have to check the line of sight
My garden is North facing
Line of sight is abstracted by own house as garden is about 25 metre
Pointing west is clear from 40 west
Can I use this kind of dish as a temporary structure to avoid planning permission
Thinking about this on eBay

Thanks

I am not 100% sure if an NPRM on a patio would avoid planning permission? It does not look like a fixed structure so you might be OK.

If you want to be 100% sure then mount the whole thing on a mobile platform that can be immobilised when raised from the ground and moved about when lowered onto castors.
You could knock one up cheaply, I got a pallet for nowt from a local builders and braced it with some extra timber. I have attached a link below to the topic where I made it.
The mobility also means you can shunt it around to maximise line of sight opportunities.

Page 1, post 14 and onwards

From a UK location I have managed to lock C-Band signals from 57.0 East to 47.5 West.
There is good C-Band juice on 55.5W to 65.5W if you have line of sight.

You could try a wanted advert on the forum to see if there are any UK based forum members with a CM 1.8m setup they wish to sell.
I think there might be sellers?

Alternatively, the dish you illustrated at £450 starting bid looks in good condition and is motorised with dual axis tracking on what looks like an SSS dual axis polar mount.
The buy it now of £650 is a bit strong, £450 seems barely reasonable to over the odds, £300 would be a reet nice buy.

Line of sight is clear after 45w
So I can easily do 55 to 65 west
Thanks for information moonbase
Let me upload some pictures where I want to install the dish and then we take it from there
I am happy to explore the planning route if it’s easy enough for a secure installation.
Thanks again.

Reading what others have said about north/south signal variation, 1.8m might be a bit small for the western C-band satellites up in Scotland.

Bare in mind that the further your dish looks West then the elevation of the dish gets lower and lower - might be a good idea to get 'SatFinder' app up and position yourself at the lower edge of your proposed dish position to see if you clear the row of roof tops as you might end up having to elevate your install higher off the ground.

Good advice.

@Gladstones

Looking at your visible arc illustrated in the picture with the neighbours houses I think a mobile platform with the dish on top will give you increased arc scope, you could move the platform around the garden to grab extra cracks of visibility. Although it might seem a bit daunting to create a mobile platform, the only bit I could not do myself was to get 4 steel plates made up with a nut welded over a hole for the raising/lowering system. I found a local welder who did the job quickly and at a fair price. Castors can be bought second hand from eBay, I think a second hand set of four, each one capable of taking 150kg cost me £8 plus delivery.

How's about lol - - re-locate shed to opposite side of rear garden or even closer to house, re-use or strengthen shed foundation to a flat solid surface , knock up a mobile pallet job as MB suggests. The mobile aspect would then satisfy the planning dept and also give you room to move the install around the shed base for more flexibility - sorted, crack on.

There is nowt much on Ku band in that range but there are some C-Band satellites, probably the best ones would be 40.5W, 47.5W and 55.5W.
Both 47.5W and 55.5W carry feeds regularly and 40.5W has plenty PVu juice on it such as ESPN.

If you got the dish at a reet bargain price it could be a fun project to get yourself into C-Band if you have not used it before.
However, at the £450 starting bid I would swerve it considering the limited arc, unless you have a specific thirst for the juice from 40.5W and 55.5W.

The seller aint gonna get £450 for it, once they had a couple of reality checks on pricing you could swoop and offer them a deuce for it.

That dish was never gonna sell at £450, the price was over the top.
If you can get it are you planning on cutting it in half for transportation, it looks like a one piece dish to me?

1.8m is a single piece reflector (until it gets damaged by the courier).

Best way to transport is on the roof of a car, or in a large van.
