You need at least 6dB (maybe slightly more) to lock on ORTM. I get 6.5dB and it's with freezes. ORTM2 is stronger at 7.3dB down here.

I believe SatSearcher managed to lock this on his Channel Master 1.2m and nelson_b on his 1.8m.

No not me! Think you got me mixed up with someone else! I have tried these on many occasions but never managed to get a sniff from my location.

Can someone try these two for me please. I've spent a few days this week putting my 1.2 back up, when it was on the test mount in the garden at the beginning of the week I was getting both signals fine but since putting the dish back up on the house I've been unable to lock them. I was starting to suspect my alignment but I've just noticed a huge carrier from 30W on 12341V 27500 3/4 and am wondering if this has come up this week and blocked 31.5?

Thanks Nelson, maybe it was just bad timing this carrier came up, I'll try again later to see if the signal has come up but it's tricky to spot it amongst the strong signals from 30W.

I just put my Ku LNB back on and ORTM2 is still there but around 1dB weaker... I cannot seem to fish out ORTM though - it gives me ORTM2 there.

Still nowt here, this is starting to bug me LOL Too cold to start messing with the dish today but I might try adjusting the focal position of the LNB just in case.

I must say that it was very sensitive to alignment. One or two clicks the wrong way and I lose it.

Bit of a mystery then Pride, I'll brave the elements tomorrow and nip up with the laptop and give the dish a poke to see if it'll lock too much of this white stuff blowing about to do it now.

The 1.2 is back on Ku now and I'm now getting this one again at 7dB, what is obvious from Crazyscan is the strong carrier on 30W has gone so it must have been blocking 31.5W. Interesting to compare signals between the two dishes as the 1.8 is still on Ku, these screengrabs show how the bigger dish not only has over 2dB more gain but much better directivity over the 1.2m. All bar the locked 31.5W transponder are from 30W.

Equipment as per my profile on the left, 10m of CT125 on the 1.2 and 30m on the 1.8m.

Yep, the beamwidth of a larger dish will be narrower and hence be more directional. Hence the need for a more precise alignment on those.

I am getting a 5db lock on this TP but it takes so long to get a lock due to low SR that F15 never waits long enough for it to come through. No problems with ORTM transponders though.

Between 6.5 and 7dB (variable). It's on the limit but the image is stable.
