This may be of interest. I sent this message to ab........

Dear Sir.

I have tried to contact you sales division twice and I am saddened to say that I have not received a reply.

I have an ab CryptoBox 752HD. I have to say this is one of the best, if not the best, satellite receiver I have owned. I have been a feed hunter now for some 37 years. I search for news, sport, any down link that is of interest.

The only short comings that I have found with the receiver is that you cannot set the search parameters, you have to let the receiver search the whole of the satellite band, There are many satellites that do not transmit the whole of a frequency band.

The other point is the 752HD does not allow FEC of 25/36, 3/5, 4/5, 1/8, to name but a few.

Is it possible to amend the software for this receiver to do the above mentioned actions. If not could you produce a receiver that will perform as well as the 752HD with the addition of being capable of setting search parameters and these additional FEC. Also being UHD capable would be useful.

There are many feed hunters that I know that would like these features added. It certainly would improve its saleability.

Yours sincerely......RC (edit - full name removed - A/S)

This is the reply I received

Dear Sir,

Thanks for your improvements, we will forward them to our STB producer.
But some of them won´t be possible to add to the software, cause CPU doesn´t support them, e.g. FEC of 25/36 is related with DVB-S2X and STB supports DVB-S2 only.

I took this matter up with the excellent Satellite Superstore. After a bit of research I had a telephone call from Sat Superstore. Evidently it cannot be stated in advertisement's because the ab CryptoBox is not 4K, therefore it cannot be sold as S2X capable, even though it is

As discovered the ab CryptoBox 752Hd is S2X capable, but because the 752HD is not 4K capable it cannot be declared as S2X capable. But the 800 version which is 4K capable can be declared as S2X capable. The 752HD will download 4K transmissions but obviously they cannot be viewed.

I have also shot myself in the foot a little. Looking at 33 East namely, 11372 H 31427 has a FEC of 32/45, also 11470 V 30000 has a FEC of 25/36, both are receivable on the 752HD, but I can be forgiven because the 752HD only registers Auto as the FEC. Also if you check the FEC's registered on the 752HD they are 1/2, 2/3, 3/4, 5/6, 7/8, 8/9, 9/10, but as proven it will find these other odd FECS but to "cover up" they are not listed.

All very interesting.

I have discovered the reason for this quirk in this receiver because it is not 4K capable.

I wondered as to why the 752HD would not receive the Swiss Mux on 33 East, 12597 V 10058 25/36 MPEG 4 where as it would receive the two data feeds with 32/45 and 25/36 FECs, where as it will receive RTPi 3 channel on Hispasat on 10770 H 30000 5/6 all be it the channel being encrypted. It is because the FEC used is one of those fixed on the 752HD at MPEG 4.

In other words the receiver will down load the data channels with the odd FECs at MPEG 2 but not at MPEG 4 unless the FEC being used is one listed within the receivers menu. Hence the Swiss mux will not be received because it is MPEG 4 with the odd FEC of 25/36.

Welcome

Please take a picture or three of the rear panel (and internals if brave enough).

Go on the web where you can download pictures of the rear panel. I am not opening the receiver up as it would negate the warranty on the receiver. Attached is a copy of the rear panel taken from the Amazon site.

I need more information about these boxes.
Looking for a non-linux high quality receiver, thinking to 800UHD but not sure if differences with 752HDare only 4K downloads or more.
Also, is it available any channel editor for my Windows PC? Thanks.
