Sky+ box. Planning on ditching it for something else VERY soon

Hello Satellites.co.uk forums.
I'm planning on swapping to Freesat in the next 6 weeks or so after discovering how much we've been paying sky for the basic entertainment package. When we last changed our sky preferences there was no such thing as 'in contract' or 'standard rates' for TV packages, so we feel completely ripped off that we weren't made aware of these changes.

Freesat makes the most sense for our setup as we dont have a convenient coaxial connection in the lounge.
EVERY review website i've checked has the Humax HDR-1100S as the #1 choice and there are certainly plenty of 5* reviews for it, however there are also plenty of tech savvy reviews that say similar things;

'Clunky' EPG
Slow / unreliable remote control
Not as good functionality as older models

Is this really the best box on the market? If not I'd love to know what the best alternative Freesat recorders are.

I've also noticed that whilst 1TB models are available if you look hard enough the 2TB models are out of stock everywhere.
Is this typical or have I chosen to look when there happens to be a lull in production?

Best or not, it's the only Freesat PVR currently on the market, as far as I'm aware.

Presumably the advances in "catch-up" services has reduced demand for actual recording.

Freesat has it's own "Freetime" service now, akin to DTT's "Freeview Play"

I think it could be more to do with the demise of the platter hard drive. SSDs haven't really made a smooth transistion into continuous recording devices, they are appearing more in the CCTV market, though often as optional extras, so there might also be some question mark on their longevity there as well.

There are a dwindlng number of Freesat PVR receivers about, usually in local dealers or in the back of the vans of independents, search for Goodmans and Sagemcom marques.

I had noticed this one though, expensive for 500GB

Not really, Krea /KreaTV was mentioned years ago, but this country has been on the end of a piece of rope for quite a while. Linked to Motorola VIP chipsets initially

From what I gather, audience management rules, so expect the new machines to connect to anything they can sense, wirelessly or other, then send as much viewing information back to the highest bidder by whatever means.

Not sure what that means - BUT does that kinda "imply" that Motorola phones are an "open book" for "spying?

PS: I asked that because we both have Motorola (AKA Lenovo, AKA "Chinese" in some form or another!) phones (Moto G3 & G4 generations ), and, if so, then it might time to "make a change" - OTOH, we both make sure never to use those phones for "sensitive" stuff like bank accounts, etc. !
