Advice on full set-up.

Not sure if i'm in the right place for this or even if its allowed?? Mods remove if its not please.thanks.
Im a total newdie and totally thick when it comes to this sort of technology..so advice would be truly grateful.
Im in process af constructing a large workshop with a small section dedicated to a little bar and A/V section where i can escape the family to watch my folms and sport..... from scratch what do i need? I dont want pay subscriptions so a free sat sort of thing, i want to be able to pick up the free sat channels in UK but also be able to pick up the french/ german sats?? For free sports.. so wot do i need altogether as in ALL the gear from Maybe mororized dish to decoder box? etc etc. And advice on reasonable/good makes/models.. dont want to go nuts with top of the end stuff that'll cost me thousands, just a few hundred quid.( hopefully)
If no one can advise are they able to direct me to the right place via links etc?

The first thing is, have you clear access to the southern sky for direct sight of the satellites. Dishpointer will help.

As TJExcalibur has mentioned, a suitable position with an unobstructed view of at least two and probably three satellites is required. Astra 28.2 East, Astra 19.2 East and Hotbird 13 East, a multifocus setup with three LNBs on a multisat bracket would be a quick and easy solution. If you want more and have a good view of the Southern sky, then perhaps an 80cm dish with a DiSEqC motor would be a good idea and bring in many more satellites, with frre to air channels.

Enough to watch on motorised dish if line of sight is clear which is 53 east to 30 west.
Good motorised system with 1m dish cost you around £250.

A quick look at Amazon seems to show prices have risen a fair bit since the B word. Perhaps wait a couple of months for it to settle down again. You may be able to pick up a whole setup used from eBay relatively cheaply.

For French channels you'll want 5 west. If you can see a Sky dish, which points at 28.2 east, you'll need a clear sight from the Sky dish angle to just past due south.

Apologies for late replies.
Thanks everyone for their very kind advice and contribution.
There certainly is a little more involved than i thought.. no probs tho cos theres plenty of food for thought suggested here, i just need it to sink in a little now and do a little more research.
Where the workshop/ mancave is gona be situated, its pretty clear of nearby trees.. i'll have to check that satellite app.

That seems a fair price buddy.. think i'll look those items up..
At the risk of totally embarrasing myself... how do the motorized dish work? Is it like in the movies where all angles etc a programmed in and you hit a button, or is it a toggle type thing whete you have to keep constantly finding a signal for the different sats ( up a bit down a bit, left a bit right a bit)?
Sorry for the seemingly dumb question but i honestly have no idea whatsoever about this type technology.

With a motorised system, it's actually a lot of "a bit of both"!

After getting the motor and dish mounted on a mast/pole, then it's "up a bit down a bit, left a bit right a bit", and that takes the most time, effort,, sweat & tears to get the motor to drive the dish to the satellites you want to receive! A lot of what to buy and how to install it is covered in this section of the forum and also in this one (there is quite a lot of "overlap" between the two) DISH SETUP: Single sat, Multi-Sat & Motorised .

When that stage is "complete", then it's more like "all angles etc are programmed in and you hit a button" on the remote control for the Sat receiver to drive the dish to the particular satellite and then choose the channel you want to watch.

Nevertheless, as you will have guessed by now, it can be, and usually is, quite a lot more complicated than that - but quite satisfying when you have finally nailed it.

Therefore I suggest that you take a good look around both this section of the forum, and the one to which I pointed above, because we've had many similar questions raised over the years, and so most of the "answers" are there to be found if you do look - during which you will hopefully learn a lot about the technology and all that goes with it.

NB: look particularly at threads that talk about:
- Deciding the satellites from which you want to and CAN receive channels (and also which sorts of channels - sport, news, foreign affairs, languages, etc.) - this is often limited by where you live, the type of building and any surrounding buildings and trees which would obscure the line-of-sight from the dish to the satellites
- Choosing the right combination of motor, dish, installation cabling & accessories (such as a simple signal meter - often referred to as a "sat finder" or "sat bleeper") and satellite receiver (often referred to as a sat "Rx") as we have some "default" recommendations for newbies!
- "DiSEqC" and "USALS" motor control because that's the way that most small-medium motor/dish combos are controlled nowadays
- Physically fitting a motor on a pole/mast, and then mounting and aligning the dish

Then come back to this thread and ask about what specific info you want to know or find difficult to understand as, that way, you will learn - and we won't have to repeat "the same old stuff" time and again (and sometimes make it confusing or just plain "wrong" in the process)
