Hi
I'm looking at doing the following setup first time doing a motorized install so please be nice :) I would like to install the dish like on the link below going thru my roof into my loft using a scaffolding pole then on the chimney using 4 t&k galvanized wall brackets 2 outside and 2 inside to give it plenty of support and because its old I don't wish it to fall down lol . will this setup be ok any advice would be appreciated

I would certainly check the condition of the Brick/Mortar on the chimney not only on the outside but also on the inside of the loft, some look OK from down below but on close inspection mortar is crumbling and some of the brickwork is in need of attention.

It never hurts to get it re-pointed and checked before doing the install a 1m could still pull the stack over in some heavy gusts

Hi Thanks for reply
to be honest the brick work is not in the best shape it could do with re-pointing. don't really wont to put dish on front of house so will have to work out the best place to put it at the back

do you think one of there's locations would be better ?

I would steer clear of the chimney, it is old and looks as if it has been repaired at some time as it is. Better to come up adjacent to a rafter and put another on the other side of the pole with a bolt going through both rafters and the base of the pole supported by a plate bolted to a plates spanning 2 joists. I saw similar years ago when working in a radio hams house near Salisbury. The pole must have been4 meteres above the ridge and I have never seen so many odd looking aerials .

Go back to dishpointer.com, type in your postcode, and this time select Thor, 0.8W, from the drop down satellite box, as this is probably your best satellite to align to, zoom in on the map, and move the icon to where your house is..
You can then check 42E to 30W, to see where best to site your dish.

You need to bear in mind with a motorised setup it can be a lot of tweeking to set it up, therefore somewhere that is easier to access is better.

Agree with everyone here. On the wall above the gutter is a much better proposition than on the roof. Still need plenty of support though as it's going it be rather exposed.

If I have the correct house here would be best, get it quite high you have a chance of a full arc :).

No worries, don't be concerned about the chimney that's above the fall pipe, it falls around 9E and its coming in from a high angle.

The closer you put it to the house the higher you would have to go to get more of the arc, if you installed it where I have put it on your picture and get the bottom of the dish level with the apex of the other roof you would have a chance of a full arc,

The lower you install it here will give you less of the arc but you will still have a dam good arc :)
