Prime focus 1.8 meter dish for QO-100 work with PlutoSDR
My Location
Shropshire
I bought this almost new well over 25 years ago when I lived in Gatley, Cheshire. I had it on a 1st floor flat roof for years. When I moved here to Shropshire 20 years ago I stored it behind the workshop and recently decided to put a 4 inch steel pole in the back garden and use it for QO-100 satellite work. I did have the paperwork for it and I think it is perhaps from Sweden. I am using it fixed so I replaced the actuator ram with an alloy rod.

Anyone recognize the mount, it's from the same makers as the dish which is aluminium alloy PF. Thanks.

Best regards, Chris.

If it really does hail from Sweden, perhaps it's an SMW (Swedish Microwave) product?

We have quite a few Members from Northern European Countries, so maybe someone like @RimaNTSS can help.

It doesn't look like a single supplier of parts. The polar mount and dish are separated with what look like home made brackets.

Can you take picture of the reflector and feed arms from the front ?

The only Swedish dish I was used to in the 90's would have been Luxor, but I'm sure they were made by another company.

Looking to the way the dish is attached to the PM , i dont think the PM is made by the dish company .
No company would attach it that way , they would use a proper ring at the back of the dish .
Looks more to me as the work of a local blacksmith .

Yes, that needs a ring somehow attaching to the back. The first gale it will either go flying off the PM or the wind load will put a nice dent in the dish looking at how those declination rods are attached to the reflector..

Spot the similarity (from a 1.1m dish out back)

Yes, there is some similarity with the Luxor mount. The aluminium tabs were made by myself, the originals were similar but got lost in transit. It was bought from someone's wife whose husband bought it new and never erected it, so it never had a ring mount. The dish and mount are from the same manufacturer for sure as I DID have the original paperwork. The LNB and magnetic rotator were Swedish Microwave. As for blowing away in a wind it stood on an exposed firdt floor flat roof for many years and never moved or deformed. The thickness of the dish pressing or spinning is substantial. I have some photos of the LNB and magnetic polariser that came with it, which I'll attach, thanks for the replies everyone.

Some similarity (snigger) (snigger)
The fixed mount on yours has been clamped shut with two u-bolts and a polarmount integrated to the back with I suspect the usual Precision bearings of the time.

Nothing wrong with that at all , I deduce the origin is a Luxor , with Frankenstein upgrades, not all of them are bad at all.

Take a picture of the dish from the front, along with with measurement at rim and a depth if possible, that will determine the manufacture down to one or two production plants.
