I can get 26e on a 45cm Sky dish at 1.4 meters off the ground .. (just one channel so far.. PALMEDIA.. although there is a roof, and ariels etc in the way too... ) I'm in East Cheshire 53n 2.7w... hope that helps anyone struggling to find it for the first time... ... the receiver is a Comag sl35, standard Sky dish lnb .6db 22m of coax..

That surprises me, are you getting a picture on the Palmedia feed?

You would be better off with a solid dish for ku-band

basically i have a st 10 mesh 3 metre dish http://www.eightgroup.com/pd_sat_mesh.html

its specs are on the pdf file on this link above

it seems to be acting more like a 1 metre dish though lol

i am for sure thinking of getting a fortec 2.4m dish and playing with that instead as suggested by some one else

LoL i had visions of a 1.8m on the wall then. Now that would be interesting.

Think i'm stuck at pulling in anymore nilesat until i get a better meter which would be able to do sig quality & BER at the dish.

Hope you have fun with the 1.8.

Sorry Rolfw - been away - just read your message re 26 e on a sky dish (zone 1)... PALMEDIA TV 12738 H 2400 3/4 ... mid UK 53n 2.7w (E Cheshire) ..... do I get a picture?... That surprises me, are you getting a picture on the Palmedia feed?
Yes, the picture's fine ... usually a web cam type picture and very occasionally news items etc... The dish goes through a disecq motor too so I think there must be loss there too.

If any one is struggling to locate 26e for the first time 12738 H 2400 3/4 PALMEDIA TV seems good for me as a stronger starting point... I notice that on a 75cm dish when it rains heavily .. Palmedia seems to stay on after all the other signal have been wiped out.

NOTE: I used a sky dish on a diseqc motor as a temp dish set-up and was surprised to see what it picked up... it has line of sight from 28e to 45w
and sees 28e, 26e, 21.5e, 19, 16, 13, 10, 7,5, 1w,5w,8w, 12.5w, 15w, 18w, 22w, 27w, 30w, 43w, 45w- I'm sure it loses week transponders etc... but it fills 4500 channels far too easily and they keep neighbours happy.

I also noticed that after going through a load of LNBs to find the best to get 26e (regardless of quoted noise figures) the best was an old Sky LNB by Pace I think...- had to modify it to fit a 40mm fitting but it's on an 80cm dish now doing a better job.

We used to always get MBC2 on anything before they moved it... 60cm dish with a bog standard .7 db lnb was no problem except in really bad weather or sun outage at 8am-8.15 am. We had no problem using a Sky box with a (dented) 80cm dish using add channels and a manual switch.. it was usually left on MBC2 not Sky free channels... that's why we think MBC channels were moved out of normal UK range... - an obvious deal with Sky and the movie companies.. ?- at the same time they modified the software on Sky boxes to stop them being moved off sat.. (don't blame them for that though). Sky boxes still show the channels in add channels (not 11919- but Kuwait etc,, ) they just wont show them now because the Sky box has to see a particular TD or something on 28e or else it won't work.

When we used to set up a dish manually for 26e, we'd start at Sky (obviously) and using an meter, very slowly pull off Sky westward (obviously) (but on a bracket that tracked the arc!.. and watch the signal steadily drop....... until it did a very, very slight step- that plateau always seemed to be 3 or 4 degrees to the west and not 2 as 26e should be... but it worked... I now use a noisy meter and I think the racket it makes with its beeeeeep detracts from that kind of accuracy watching a needle plateau for a couple of degrees.

Hi everyone

Sorry if this has been answered before but I really need some help. I’m located in Leeds in the north of England and I need to subscribe to ShowTime (ShowSports) but I'm struggling to find a company that can do this for me. Could someone please provide me with a contact to help me with this.

800 UK Pounds !

kinhell thats more then two UK dealers I have seen.

I can get the whole showtime package with my dish in Manchester but would never pay that sort of money, any way no need when gamma card opens it.

Turns out now that gamma cards out number official cards by 10 to 1 in the Arab States.

During the football now on showsports you get a on screen message saying call now to make sure your sub is up to date.

As if.

Hi I can get you a card, Its a showtime card . Got it in Oman, for 800 sterling came with a nasty receiver, you can get showtime movies cin/sports, mine you for sports you will need 2.4 dish. If your receivers off more then 48 hours you have to refresh the card on show movies 1 to do this ring 971 4 36 77 888. The card lasts this is the great bit a lifetime so wrap it up in cotten wool. by the way you need a 1.5 to get most of the channels, i can get 92chs on my little dish 1.2 all ver leslies2274 north east

My Satellite Setup
2X90cm Dish
3 LNB
Hotbird - Nilesat -Arabsat/Badr
My Location
Watford
Hello there,
Iknow this is an old post and I do not see any reason why I cannot reply to it as I am searching for something similar.
I was searching the internet trying to find out some information regarding the same subject but to improve the connection I already have so I thought I should register here as the question has already been asked and might aswell give my 2 cents.

As I recall when I first wanted to install a satellite dish I realized I cannot install any bigger than a 90cm dish without an approval from the council and that approval might not be possible and will have to pay just to find out so I used 1 90cm dish and everything was fine at first but then all the channels started to disappear from arabsat and onto Nilesat and all the new arabic channels were opening only on nilesat but our 1 90cm would not pick up both along with hotbird so we decided to get another 90cm just for the Nilesat and use the first for hotbird and any other sat if needed.

Now when I read some of the replies saying you cannot get a signal for nilesat with a dish smaller than 1 meter I thought I really should post my excperience. I live in Watford - England and I use a 90cm dish for Nilesat and anther 90cm dish for the rest, which are hotbird and Arabsat aka badr. I have 3 LNB's installed and although I use 2 dishes so that I can allign 1 only for nilesat to achieve better signal strengh I still have failed to get a lot of the channels my family have requested. I was and still am a complete novice regarding this matter, but have done alot of research over the years to know that it is very hard but is not impossible to get the arabsat & Nilesat channels but impossible only with the 90cm rule we have in this country. I will be asking my question on another thread so it doesn't seem like I am trying to hijack this one.

Nilesat at 7W is actually three co-located satellites:

Nilesat 201 @ 7W
Eutelsat 7West A @ 702W
Eutelsat 8West B @ 8W

Nilesat 201 - which is where many of the more interesting channels are located is not possible in the UK without a VERY large dish - in Watford you would probably be looking at a minimum of a 3m dish......

The other two birds are possible with reasonable sized dishes for the west / Europe beams. The Middle East & Eastern beams - forget it.
