Apologies, I start with sky news and then switch to weaker channels to fine tune
I do something similar - I start with 11954H (BBC interactive TP which is my absolute strongest) just to pick up the right sat, and (NOW since 1N) fine-tune on 10964H (the new CH5 TP). After tightening up, I just lean a tad on my dish mount in all directions to check that 10714/10773H (also my weakest) are as good as I can get. This seems to work for me. I know 28.2 and 28.5 are regarded as 1, but I think with the larger dishes, I think you can detect a marginal difference between them. Every little helps as they say.

That's not true. 12207 is on Astra 2, owned by SES Astra, and stationed at 28.2E, same as 1N. The slot at 28.5E is owned by Eutelsat and the current satellite is EB1 (Eutelsat 28A).

All depends what meter you have. On mine you just put the marker over the transponder and that's what you are measuring.
I actually have two meters, s Smart Finder and a WS6906 receiver. I use the Finder to do just that. What I like about this piece of kit is that it will actually identify the satellite when it finds one. (Except the new Astra 1N).
Once I am locked on to the strongest signal I use the WS6906 to go through the channels to try and tweak for best reception in each transponder.

Apologies, I meant 28.2, but it is on the 2B South Beam which is stronger than the 2B North Beam. Notionally, there are 4 sats at 28.2, but they cant all be exactly at 28.2 or they would crash into each other. They all float around either side of 28.2. So the point I was making was that that you should tune to the weakest TP because it needs more help, and the strongest TPs are more capable of handling a bit of bad weather.

Under ITC rules satellites have to stay within 1º of there east/west slot and only satellites controlled by the same operator can be in that same slot. Satellites of other operators must be at least 0.2º away, which is why we have this situation at 28E and 7W where some of the satellites are 0.25º apart.

I remember from Astra 1 promo video back in the 90's that satellites sharing the same position are held together in a 100 sq. mile box for that position. So, I guess they *can* appear to be in exactly the same spot in the sky.
