Llew, I think he means:

When 1N was testing at 1.8E were there any special tests on the 10700-10950 part of the spectrum (on 1N, not on 2D).

OK, understood. No, I didn't see anything unusual happening on the band myself during the time I checked, either in real time on the standalone speccy or with Crazyscan. Others may have though, who knows?

Is it likely then that we could see bbc ect on astra 1N in the near future? If so then we could possibly get it on a 2.4m dish now we have established that we can receive horzontals here in lanzarote?

If you can get Astra 1N channels then yes you will get some extra programming when Astra 2D is turned off next year.

HOWEVER 1N will be replaced by 2E / 2F which will certainly have much narrower reception parameters than 1N.

And before anyone asks - no we dont know what will be possible on 2E / 2F! :D

Hi All, Have just posted a report on the Canaries reception page. Astra 1n much stronger than 2d in the North of Fuerteventuraon a 2.4 mtr dish. Any teccy's out there who can answer this. I am trying to simulate a smaller dish to estimate reception. I have a C120 feed horn, The diameter is 80mm, I took some cooking foil cut a hole in it and placed it over the feed, thus reducing the aperture to 40mm. 2d reception which is pretty good completely disappeared. 1n was still going with slight pixellation. Any thoughts would be welcome. what size dish have I simulated? or is my logic all wrong. Please no jokes about toilet roll centres and bits of string a la Blue Peter. Sorry if this is off topic a bit, didn't know where to put it, new to this posting malarky.:-ohcrap

Contractually Channel 5 are probably still paying for that transponder with a new contract on the 1N Txp. If I were paying for something up until a certain date even though no viewers were watching it I'd request them leave it on just out of principle!

As for the encryption it's been suggested that C5 and ITV may have continued on a sort of Month by Month rolling basis until 1N was ready to deploy. Don't forget it was meant to launch July 1st so behind schedule anyway. My guess would be that C5's encryption will be removed from all their services on the 1st December, thus giving Freesat five and seven days, respectively, of testing on their services.

I suspect also that with C5 being regionalised on Freesat for the first time and C5+1's launch, together with all other C5 services being added, doing all of this concurrently would have been a major over-air EPG update in one go, especially considering the C5 regionalisation is going to be a large'ish update just for a single EPG LCN.

I reckon C5 will regionalise together with C5+1 on Freesat from 6th, leaving the other four EPG slots to be filled with C5's other services on the 8th. I can't now see why, when they can, C5 will just keep a single Region 2 feed on Freesat. I'm in Region 3 so if they make this change I'll check and be aware of it.

Hmm I can fill up a container with unwanted 2.7m and 3m dishes at half price. You can make a killing out there :-)
Now, where can I find cheap 10m dishes ?
