Yep, I'll be glued to the TV for this one!! This three part series concludes tonight with this episode, it was the Satellite build one which got me to series link the lot. The first part, involving Airbus, also an Astrium company, was in part filmed in Toulouse which is where Astrium's large production HQ is based so guess to the producers the opportunity to do the Satellite build episode was convenient!

I think, looking at the preview, there's some clips of the 1N launch too. I guess we might see some footage of 1N as well as 2F too if that's also what's featured?? Looking forward to it!

Those readings are more or less the same for me on a 1.8m aerial.

Yes as you said, pretty much identical measurements to those I took earlier.

no they said the dishes point at 29° above the horizon - which is the right elevation.

A really interesting documentary, the expertise that goes in to manufacturing is somewhat amazing. Whilst I appreciate they simplified terms for everyone non-technical to understand it would be interesting to have seen the various hardware stages in uplink Rx through to IF transposition and then amplification and re-transmission.

Maybe if someone's got a PC card and can do HD screen grabs of some of the shots they could be posted in a seperate thread?

That Antenna Engineer responsible for antenna design will be the one to ask about spotbeams! He'll already know exactly what the UK spotbeam on 2E, 2F and 2G will look like!

I'm sure if someone knew someone within Astrium (and signed a confidentiality disclaimer) then they'd be well in the know!!

First we'll all find out will be shortly before it's launched when SES publish them. One things for certain, and as I predicted, they've got some seriously good coverage modelling software to engineer antenna patterns to do what they like. 2E, 2F and 2G's spotbeams will all be designed to give a neat UK footprint from 28.2E taking all the issues of skew and orientation in to mind as these satellites will be designed for this orbital location.

This device is costing so much money, they wont tell you anything if their costumer (SES) doesnt want that.
