Yes but more than likely a narrower beam. Exactly how; we will have to wait.

A really interesting documentary, the expertise that goes in to manufacturing is somewhat amazing. Whilst I appreciate they simplified terms for everyone non-technical to understand it would be interesting to have seen the various hardware stages in uplink Rx through to IF transposition and then amplification and re-transmission.

Maybe if someone's got a PC card and can do HD screen grabs of some of the shots they could be posted in a seperate thread?

That Antenna Engineer responsible for antenna design will be the one to ask about spotbeams! He'll already know exactly what the UK spotbeam on 2E, 2F and 2G will look like!
Yes wasn`t his name Mr De`Ath (really!!!!)... little does he realise he has the power of life and death over ex pat viewing.

Solly, I would suggest prepare for the worst! If it doesn't materialise then its a bonus for us, although it looks highly unlikely there will be a bonus! I asked the question last week sometime and was told we will still have some widebeam access which will more than likely be paid for services. Better than nothing and you can supplement with some ipTV.

There will always be a workaround one way or another! You may just have to receive some of your viewing in ways other than a dish!

isnt it the same?, beyond my knowledge of satilletes
No, it's not the same. The satellite is at 28E, that is the orbital slot. Elevation is the angle the above the horizon that the receiving dish points towards. Elevation changes based on your location. Elevation for London is 25º, whereas for me here it is 36º, and 29º is a south-west/north-east stripe somewhere between the two (see the map).

Well one thing is for sure, Dr Death is not trying to get fired. His job is to make sure the coverage area is fully illuminated to the correct EIRP, and not that the non-coverage area is not illuminated. And seeing as he is dealing with a 100 million GBP asset I'm sure he is going to err on the side of caution, rather than let the satellite owner find out at a later stage that everyone in Scotland needs a bigger dish.

Did anybody notice that Mr De`Ath said that they try and suppress unwanted power over the sea and even the smallest manipulation of the reflector surface by10s of millimeters can have a subtle afffect on thebeam shape. Beam technology shaping has moved on... What this tells me is that they will try and avoid too much spillage in the sea North of Scotland and West Of Ireland.

what sort of meter have you got ,can it tell what is what or is it just signal

Hi again Thortenerife, sorry didn't post sooner, think I've got goat flu. Meter is nothing fancy, got it from Kong Hong, it's a CY70358 officially called a Satfinder monitor. If I remember rightly it cost 85€ including postage. It has a 3.5" lcd screen, reads signal strength and quality and BER and some other things I haven't fathomed out yet, It's all in Chineese. Very good tuner, equally as good as the openbox, which is the best i've come across on a cheapie so far. It isn't a spectrum analyzer but does the job and you can watch telly too.

Thanks for that radioagogo. C4 was pixellating until around mid-day. Nothing now.

Very interesting Milestone 11, perhaps we should meet. What LNB are you using?

Put enough power down over Scotland and we might be able to grow tomatoes outside in the "summer" :-rofl2

Hi Again, Sorry for the delay in reply, think I have Goat flu. The meter is nothing special, just a cheapie from Kong Hong. Officially it's a Satfinder/Monitor CY70358 only cost me €85, reads frequency, signal strength and quality in % and BER and some other things I haven't fathomed out yet, it's in Chineese. It's not a spectrum analyzer but it is perfectly adequate for my needs. Runs for 4 hours on a charge, has a 3.5" LCD display so you can see what's going on. Tuner is very sensitive as good as my Openbox which is the best I've come across so far for weak sat watching. Hope that's of some use. Sorry if this post appears twice, didn't seem to go first time

Radioagogo, you are now entering realms of which I know nothing. I won't prove my total ignorance of the subject by saying it's grey with a white cap. I will however prove that I'm capable of looking for something on the internet. Below is make and spec:

LNBTW02BOS+ BOSHMANN Universal Twin LNB, Noise Figure 0.2 dB

La más amplia gama de LNBs del mercado.
Figura de ruido de 0.2 dB garantizado por estrictos controles de calidad.

Horizontal Low Control Signal 16.0 - 20.0 V & 0 kHz

Whether these numbers prove that it's good, bad or indifferent is waaaaay beyond my knowledge of such things. Now, if it had wheels...

That's using ACM coding. I get it on the TBS 6925, which can resolve those streams.
