ACM - Adaptive Coding and Modulation. Used for data transmission, where the modulation and FEC rates are changed to suit the link conditions (noise, weather etc.) I think it's mostly used where the last link in the chain is terrestrial, where these conditions can have an adverse effect on the signal. There must of course be a return link to report any adversity, so the sender can change the FEC for maximum efficiency.
So trying to resolve an ACM channel with constantly changing modulation and FEC rates is impossible with non-ACM cards and STB's.
