My Satellite Setup
Humax Foxsat HDR, Samsung Sky+ HD, Skybox, Fransat HD box, Fransat SD box
Several dishes up to 150cm, receiving 28E 26E 19E 13E 9E 5W
My Location
Lugo, Galicia, Spain
An expat friend living near Lalín wants to receive Freesat. I’m a little out of touch with the satellite scene, but is Inverto Black Ultra single still the the LNB of choice? I have aging Humax Foxsat and Technisat receivers. Is there anything newer/better? My 1m50 centre feed dish gives no rain margin, so I’m recommending 1m80. Any thoughts?

180cm should do it. But beware of LNB, as a prime focus antenna usually needs a C120 flange lnb + feed for that antenna. Invacom has some good C120 lnbs. Some people modify standard offset lnbs with good results.

My friend in northwest Spain had her setup installed professionally, and I’m surprised that it’s not for Astra 2, but a smaller dish and decoder using some input code.
However, I’m using Astra 2 with a free to air signals only. Since the Spring I’ve completely lost the UK beam on my 1,50 dish. Could it be a fault at my earth station, or has the beam tightened…Is there any hope for me?!

The BBC satback service on 27.5W probably.

SPain has been having scorching hot weather this summer so you may well find the lnb has fried in the fierce heat..

My Satellite Setup
OpenBox X5 on a 1 meter motorized dish.
And now a 10 foot "C" band dish.

Custom built PC

Things may have changed over time, here are a few things to look at, the first link is a transponder list for the 3 satellites at that location, find your channels in that list and look at the top of the transponder description,(see example) it will give you the beam that the transponder is in.

Then look at the second link, this is a list of the beams for that satellite, select the one for that channel, then you can zoom into your location and click on it, this should bring up the required dish size needed for that beam at your location.

First link.
Code:
https://satbeams.com/channels

Example, look where it says Spot (in bold) below, this is the beam for that channel.
1, Ku , 10714 , H , 22000 , 5/6 , Astra 2E (28.2° E) , Spot , QPSK , DVB-S , Sky UK, EIRP

Second link.

For reception at 28.2º E it is better that the day is cold, it favors the signal levels better. The sun and the heat make it worse.

Better and stronger signal in the morning on this satellite.

Much better in winter, higher signal levels.

Terryl gave you a very nice description of how to check the reception for your areas. However the coverage folders are not 100% accurate either. I am also outside the coverage folder and have generated reception in fair weather conditions. Don't use Inverto black ultra as it has poor results. I recommend invacom flange twin, megasat diavlo also has good results.

Your picicon is wrong :D - None of the BBC services are Sky channels - they rent their own capacity from SES. As do ITV, Channel4 & Channel5

Picons have been in the settings list for a long time. I don't pay much attention to them. It's important to focus on something

The frequency 12,422 H SR 27500 FEC 2/3 DVB-S is old, it no longer exists with the BBC channels.

Do not receive the new frequency in SD from your location? 10,803 H SR 22000 FEC 5/6 DVB-S. And in HD any of the frequencies? Can you receive them from your location?
