My Satellite Setup
Setting up access to Astra 2 with a Gibertini dish, feeding to a Panasonic Skybox (Humax also used).

Since 1998 I have been watching the Sky package on Astra with focus on BBC, ITV, Channel 4 etc. At first I was able to use a 60cm dish at my home
50 kms south of Munich without any problem. Upgraded the dish to 85cm 2000, good reception using a used Panasonic Sky box purchased
from The Satellite Shop in Tunbridge Wells. Without any problems, until it gave up, a newer also used box, was purchased in 2007. Then living in the
Heidelberg, Mannheim area, everything worked without a hitch, even to the point of being able to aim the dish by eye sighting.
2017, moved back to Southern Bavaria and and now will set up the system once again. Things have changed a little however. Astra 2, using a
UK beam, has placed me on the fringe of the reception area. Because of this and after reading Satellite TV reports, I will purchase a 125 cm Gibertini
dish and hope that this will bring the channels to my television. The Sky box is still good so I will use this in conjunction with a Humax LNB.
Any thoughts and comments on this set up will be greatly appreciated as I see that the most experienced Sat TV viewers post to the forums on this
website. I found Satellites.co.uk by chance and a piece of good fortune it was for me to be able to read comments from a wealth of experience.
Thanks for expert assistance from all and wish you all clear viewing.

A little less analogue, and a lot more crap.

Humax have, as far as I recall never made LNBs, though if you take a couple of pictures of what you do have, somebody here will be able to identify.

For Gibertini experience, Jeallen has been posting recently on his system in West London, his is tied to a motor.

There are a couple of Gibertini outlets not far from you, or you might be able to purchase direct, but check first the signal will be strong enough or you might have to swop it for a 1.5m.

Look at the map listed in my signature - I think you will find you need something MUCH bigger than 1.2m - we have a report for Rosenheim which I think is near you which said that a 1.5m only gave intermittent reception.

Now Im the first to admit these maps and reports are a few years old now. Things will have changed slightly so you need to take advice from local expats as to what works in your particular area. One thing to watch though - reception can vary greatly over a few miles.

Thanks for the comments. We have a few Gilbertini sellers in this "sort of" area. Shipping costs are high for a large object.
A comparison with fuel costs to go to the dealer personally is definitely worthwhile. I will combine the two,
taking delivery of a 1.25 and if having to exchange it, will drive to the dealer. Rosenheim is indeed close by. Intermittent
reception is to be expected when outside the borders of the beam therefore I am not fussed if the picture drops out except
when a smart reporter gives her weather or news report!

Somewhere in England (possibly?)!

@Channel Hopper
TBH, I think you are far better qualified to comment on that Gibertini + Superior Dark Motor installtion as you installed it for me, and I've been pretty pleased with the results :D

The only other comments I'd make are:
- From what I saw you doing with that combo and also with the TD110/Dark Motor combo, as well as my own limited experience before that of setting up the latter, the Gibertini alignment will more difficult for @Greenthumb than it was for his previous smaller dishes.
- The dish & motor combo are heavy, and that caused some distortion of the clamps securing the motor to the mast, which I think I fixed by beefing up the clamps - but ISTR that you feel you have a possibly better solution involving modified different clamps

From the opening post this looks like it will be a fixed dish installation only.

From the remaining posts it might be there will be no Gibertini dish but something a bit larger.
