If the system has been, and continues to track all satellites down to the visible horizon on both sides of the arc, then nothing will have moved outside because of the wind.

A half degree of mechanical misalignment on a 1.2m dish equates to (mental calculation) losing approximately 1dB at the higher frequencies, which I doubt has occurred.

I might have been cautiously optimistic, it's a bit more than 2dB at 12.75GHz

Sounds about right - about 1-2dB improvement at the higher frequencies was roughly what I found using the TM5402 M3 and adjusting the Zero position by around 0.7 deg "Westwards". BTW: the longitude settings for many of the "weaker" sats are now within around 0.3-0.5 deg of their declared nominal positions.

Edited: PS: it's definitely still tracking 53E (Express AM6) to 45W (IS 14)

OTOH, thank goodness that dish is low down in a relatively well-sheltered location - otherwise it would probably have been knocked well "off-kilter"

If it is still tracking the birds at the extremes then any positioning errors are down to the individual satellite slots created by the receiver(s), or a weight issue on the post/mount/gearbox bearings.

If you are reliant on USALS then the issues have been reported previously on a number of threads, have you tried changing your longitude in the setup menu ?

Thanks - somehow doubt it is a weight issue as that would be "downwards" and not laterally.

As for the longitude - will check again tomorrow.

My dish has taken a hammering this time. Don't know how it's been for everyone else but it did feel like Dennis was stronger in wind force than Ciara.

I've lost about 10% signal on all birds. Hard to tell right now if it's shifted that much or if the rain (which is still going) is contributing to the drop.

On the dish front everything seems to be OK here, all dishes intact and in place including the pair of 2.0m Precision dishes. The only minor annoyance is that the boundary fence maintained by next door has had a pair of panels blown down onto my side and some of the contents of their upturned bins has blown across.

Compared to the trauma some folks have had over the past two weekends, having to sort out a few fence panels and pick up a bit of rubbish might be considered as good fortune.

That was fun. Some water in the bedroom that has come through the air vents in the joist area. The rain was horizontal from the north west for about two hours in the small hours.

Oh, and there is a crack on one of the double glazing units where something has run into it.

Dishes have survived upstairs though.

Well, so far Dennis has been a lot calmer than Ciara. Yes there's wind but not nearly on the scale of last weekend and rain seems to have been much the same.

Can't see what all the fuss is about...

A rare red warning for South Wales today, plus another four hours of rain for the South East.

The river Wey is , as usual going to break banks in a number of areas. The Rythe at Hinchley Wood is a rarity though.

No damage here, except to the dead rat that's now lying on the back lawn - probably courtesy of one of the local urban foxes!

I've now checked the Gibby again with both the TM and the SX88, and there has been a consistent "shift" Eastwards of about 1 degree i.e a sat position setting that was X degrees now requires around X-1 degrees on both receivers to peak the signals.

The SX in particular confirms that as I had my location set at 0.1E (it's actually 0.4W!) as that was where I got the best tracking with that receiver and I didn't change that setting, but all the East sat positions then had to be adjusted by -around 0.8 to 1 deg (e.g. 19.2E was set at 19.5E beforehand but now it requires a setting around 18.6-18.8E), and all the sats to the West required their positions to be increased by about the same amount.

Overall, I suppose the storms didn't actually make any real differences - just changed things a bit, and meant a bit of time to "reset" everything (and more time still required to reset the SX88+ downstairs in the lounge - though I should probably just adjust my longitude on that one as I now know what appears to have happened outside, and so that should be a lot quicker)

If you are continuing to change individual orbital slot values I would suspect the motor is getting confused as to where it is supposed to stop, unless to enter a 'go to 0' command once in a while.

I don't think the motor is getting "confused" - using the SX88, it seems to go correctly to any sat to which it is pointed. I progressively worked my way across the arc from 53E to 34.5W (and it had gone to 45W yesterday with the TM) and then to 52E and now back to 10E, and it seems to have had no trouble doing that (although something like you describe did happen a few times with the Free Sat V7, and that's why I stopped using that Rx).

Signals here seem to have improved since this morning - the SX88 is now locking up channels on 53E 12594/V/27500 with SS around 80+% and SQ around 12-22%, whereas the latter was down around 10-12% for most of this morning. (53E is very difficult in my location because the beam is "touching" the sloping ridge line of an adjacent house, and so it's rarely a very good signal)

From a client, the river Wey has broken its banks at at least five locations upstream of Milford, so expect all regions downstream to have a torrent of water nearby in the next four to ten hours.

Similarly the river Mole is running exceedingly high between Gatwick at Brockham, ending downstream in the Cobham/South Hersham area.

Weybridge/Walton should keep an eye on the situation, since the Thames outlets are not far off levels seen six years ago.

Yes Dennis was much stronger, garden items that were fine with Ciara have been dislodged.I had to alter my settings over 2 degrees to the west. Now set at 0.50 east.
