Interesting! Thanks for checking and reporting back.At 6:30pm the Pace Sky+ HD box switched almost seamlessly from 720p HD to the 576i Lokalzeit Dortmund programme, and back again to 720p at 7:00pm. Assuming Freesat and subsequent Sky boxes do the same I can't think of any reason why the BBC couldn't employ the same method.
I suppose thinking about it, Sky has a German operation which will be using these exact services on their own boxes. I don’t know how similar/different to the Sky UK/IE receivers these are, but it means they obviously have experience of dealing with this system in practice.
I haven’t got a Freesat receiver to check, although I’d be super surprised if it didn’t work on the LG TV I have which is labelled Freesat (you have to turn Freesat off and use its inbuilt satellite tuner as unbranded to tune other sats anyway).
As far as I’m aware, it’s standard DVB functionality to be able to do this, with ARD being a reputable broadcaster who would surely be following all the relevant standards!
