Hi

Could anyone have a look at the BeIN transponders on 8W to see if there is any signal issues. My strength and quality is good but for the last couple of days I've been seeing breakup and random high BER even though the SNR is way about threshold.

No issues with any other transponders on that satellite, it's strange. Here are the BeIN TPs

11012 H
11054 H
12604 H (weakest)

All 27500 2/3 and all have at least one FTA channels as well as the encrypted channels.

Just want to see if it's a possible LNB issue at my end. It's not a reciever issue as I've tried a few.

Thanks

It could well be either

the uplink power is turned down on the BeIn tp's

someone is jamming those particular signals.

My money is on the second one from the symptoms

Thanks Analoguesat. The fact that it's BeIN also makes jamming more of a possibility I suppose too.

Obviously the effects are more pronounced in a fringe reception area like the UK but I've just found a post today on an Arabic forum with someone complaining of breakup on one of the channels on 12604H so it looks like it's affecting the in-footprint reception too.

Where are you Stejc ?
I am in West Essex England good reception here on those transponders with my 100cm set up,
11012 V & 11053 V? Are not beIN Sport transponder 60% SQ by the way on both of these.

beIN transponders on 8W
11012 H 60% SQ
11054 H 61% SQ
12604 H 63% SQ

Thanks for trying. Sorry my mistake H not V on the first two! If @Analoguesat could edit my original post I'd be grateful.

I'm in Merseyside. Any sudden breakup on the FTA channels such as BeIN Sports News for you?

My SQ on the BeIN Humax box is 60-70% on the first two TPs but still I get breakup constantly on 12604H (where BeIN Sports News is) and every minute on the other TPs. Edit - mixed up quality with strength.

Thanks. I've been trying on a TBS card as well and DVB Dream and seeing quite a few packet losses.

But nothing on other 8W channels like Al Jazeera, Kuwait TV or Palestine Sport.

150cm dish. It has been fine until these last few days but I've checked to ensure that there hasn't been any movement due to wind and like I say other transponders with weaker SQ are fine.

For example 11054V on the Kuwaiti channels I get 30% SQ according to the BeIN box but no breakup. Parameters are the same as the BeIN channels with the same S/R and FEC, in DVB-S2 as well.

Your dish is big enough maybe your Lnb needs a tweak ?
What Lnb are you using ?

Inverto Black Pro C120 with Gibertini feedhorn. I have a Black Ultra too which I had converted to C120 by @Trust. If the problem persists over the weekend I'll try that on it.

Something that has occured to me which could be an issue is water in the LNB or connectors but again that doesn't explain why only these transponders seem affected.

Thanks for your help @william-1

I believe it is just a reduction in the uplink power, to stop smaller dishes outside the territorial region with rights from access to the encrypted services.

Thanks Channel Hopper. Would reducing the uplink power leave no difference to the SNR and signal quality received though? As mentioned above I see the same signal levels but from DVBDream I see packet losses.

Signal/Noise ratio, signal compared to background noise. I don't know the technicalities however. I was just using it as a comparison that the SQ and the S/N decibel level is the same as it was before this problem.

If your saying that can be the case despite the uplink power being lowered then I'll accept that as an explanation as to what is happening.

Anyhow, as of around 2340 it's fine again. No packet losses for 25 minute, signal quality and strength the same. I'll keep monitoring it to see if there is a pattern.

Signal to noise ratio is a ratio, are you thinking of carrier level ?

Yes sorry I think I am. Crazyscan calls it Signal/Noise but shows it as a decibel reading.

Can you send screen shot if it happens again (Before/after)

I forgot to include the possibility the noise floor might be raised when you lose lock, which can also be generated at the uplink, but you wont be able to isolate from local interefence without expensive time domain kit.

I vaguely recall there was something different about the skew setting for this orbital slot as well, which you may not be able to fine tune unless you have a polarotor system on the dish.
