Hi,

Pretty new to this, seen a lot of info on dish sizes on here and other forums to do with the north of England. I'm wondering if anyone has had a successful set up to Nilesat & Eutelsat 7 West A @ 7.3° West to receive the BeIn sports channels in Scotland.

I am on the east coast inbetween Dundee and Aberdeen.

Any help or advice on dish size is appreciated.

Thanks

Amir

And now a 10 foot "C" band dish.

Try the link below, it has active footprint maps where you can zoom into your location and click on it, this will give you an idea on what size dish would be needed at your location.

And after looking at them is a long shot.

Thanks for the reply.

I've tried some footprints. Another one on another site mentioned a 1.2m dish may work but just wondered if anyone in a similar area to myself had tried this.

Thanks again

I doubt you'll get anything, on a 1.2M dish, as you are that far away from the Mena footprint:

You might want to investigate using a IPTV option, if you have reasonable broadband.

I pull it in on my TD88 (90cm dish) reasonably okay... Then again I live in the East of England, so a lot further south. If they changed the FEC I'll be buggered. I'd imagine you would need a 1.8m at least all the way up there. Not much left for rain fade though.

Excuse my ignorance but what's FEC?
I've read on some other forums that people have managed to pick it up on an 80cm dish in Newcastle so I didn't think I would have to go as big as 1.8m...?

Forward Error Correction.

Common ones as 1/2 2/3 3/4 5/6 7/8

1/2 means 1 bit in every 2 is used for correcting errors and leads to a very robust signal where the signal is marginal

7/8 means just 1 bit in 8 is used for correction - a good quality signal but not very robust signal in fringe areas.

Sky recently changed some of their fecs from 2/3 to 5/6 and many expats found some of their signals had disappeared overnight!

Unfortunately you are looking at ultra fringe reception, & things can change greatly over just a few miles. Its going to be a case of try it & see how you get on - satellite reception isnt a precise art.

If you are lucky you might find you are in a "hot spot" & get away with a 1.2m dish although Id rather doubt you would have much rain/snow fade allowance on that.

If you are in a "cold spot" you might find a 2.5m isnt big enough....

For satellite reception you are going to have to see if you can find an installer who is willing to try various sized dishes - with no guarantee of success at the end of the day.

You might be better off seeing if you can find an iptv box that includes Bein.

Yes, ip sounds like the best guaranteed solution, not many installers carry large dishes in stock, or in fact anything other than Sky minidishes, if one's luck is in, there may be a nearby hobbyist with a decent sized motorised dish, but I can't think of any of our members in that area with a 1.2m or bigger.

Thanks for the reply. I think I might get a 1.2m dish and give it a go. If I'm out of luck I'll stick the dish on eBay haha.

Cheers again

I am using a 1.2 m dish 50 miles from Dundee and I have no signal from the BE IN sports transponders. I am able to get about 300 odd channels off this position. I wonder if the mpeg 4 formated video on this signal is less robust?

Thats bad news for Amir.

The tp's are DVB-S2 which needs a more robust signal.

So loks like 1.8 is the minimum dish size for Amir to start with - best go for the iptv option! Or just put a minidish up for 52.5E - Im watching the 12.45 kick off (ManUtd - Tottenham) free & they have the Leicester game on later too.

Ive just been looking at a similar request over on another forum. An installer says basically "Scotland = forget it" (Its broadcast quality dishes of well over 2m - possibly 5m in places).

52.5E is the place to have a dish - they have carried 3 fta games today (Man Utd / Leicester / Chelsea - and I would expect at least one of tomorrows games to appear too).

Ok it may not last, but the dishes required are cheap as chips so its no loss if the plug gets pulled.

Going by this footprint it looks possible on a 1.2m dish...? I'm going to try and get a 1.2 and give it a go. Won't be till December till I'm in the new house so I'll stick the results up then.

What's everyone's recommendation for the best IPTV? Is it possible to get HD streams for BeIn sports over IPTV?

Thats the Badr 4 footprint from 26E - Badr 4 is an easy catch in Scotland even on an 80cm dish.

So its rather a shame Bein isnt carried on B4 at 26E - in fact its not carried on 26E at all nowadays.

Dont bother with a 1.2m dish - you will be wasting your time & money. AndyX has already reported its a no-go with no signal on a 1.2m dish in the Dundee area

Ok got you. My mistake.

There is loads of other stuff out there which you can get with a 1.2m dish which is motorised, including sports feeds, so don't let this put you off, you might find discover more than you were expecting...just look at the Flysat website.

I am 10 minutes drive from Dundee and can't get 12245v on my 1.8m. Qatar TV at 10719v comes in just fine, Maybe some adjustments I could do but it doesn't look good for you as your further north.
