If you are planning to install the dish yourself then it should be OK though 5 metres of cable is not a lot, especially if you are making multiple connections. If using an installer then you shouldn't need the cable, connectors and meter, you should be able to source a dish cheaper without those items.

It may be worth asking for a quote from the installer to supply a dish & LNB.

If you want to use a SKY PVR, then you need 2 cables from the dish to the receiver, or 4 cables if there are 2 receivers, and so 5m would undoubtedly be insufficient

And, in the interest of longterm reliability, it would be worth asking an installer to use genuine Webro WF100 foam-filled cable as that's what many of the forum members "swear by" (a lot of my cabling is WF100, but unfortunately not all of it for historical, and sometimes financial, reasons !)

I will only buy the dish and get installer with proper equipment to install so wont need metre and cables etc. Also will buy inverto ultra quad lnb.

Having tried an Inverto on my Zone 2 dish aimed at 30W, I couldn't see any SS/SQ improvement over the standard Visionware quad - probably because the Inverto is designed for a standard "vertical" elliptical dish as opposed to the "horizontal" design of the Sky Zone 1 & 2 dishes (for which the Visionware LNB IS designed) - and so I wouldn't waste extra cash on the Inverto.

If the dish is for 28.2 east then use a Sky Quad LNB, it will be better matched to the dish than an Inverto or any other 40mm universal LNB.

I was reading on satalite superstore on the faqs and advise page, dish size is everything. And they say the oval sky dish are not very good and always getting complaints about them. This is why i was asking if the standard round dish would work better with a inverto lnb? Say 65cm technomate. But if i went for zone 2 rizen 80cm oval dish then go for mk4 sjy quad lnb which is designed for that dish?
Any installers as members in ere?
So confusing this sat set up

TBH, I think you are "over-thinking" the issues involved, and reading too much into the satellite superstore remark, especially when it comes to receiving the Sky channels on Astra 2 at 28.2E!

A standard SKY Zone 1 dish will be perfectly adequate in most cases, or a Zone 2 one for greater resilience, pretty much everywhere in the UK - after all, millions of UK SKY viewers have had them installed over many years and there are actually relatively very few issues in practice when those dishes are correctly installed and with the right cables and weather protection (especially at the LNB ) .

BTW: For quite a few years I was using a conventional solid 60cm dish & Technomate dual LNB at the end of 25-30m of cable at the end the garden and that provided very reliable reception for SKY in all conditions except absolutely torrential rain - BUT I didn't see any difference/degradation when I swopped to a standard perforated Zone 2 dish and quad much nearer the house, and that was done simply because it released the cables to the end of the garden for easier access to other dishes that I later installed!

You'll have to post a photo of the dish.

if you are not going to change your dish yourself why are you worrying too much about lnb ,wire, meter and so on
best is to get quote from local installer Google it you can find many.

My mind isnt made up yet. I only use it for uk sky channels so just need them to be solid. I have come to my senses and think it could just be the lnb that is finished after over 10 years use. So do i spend £150-£200 including install charges or do I just buy a lnb for oval dish £15 and change over myself. My dish already got a 40m adaptor attached.
I have made pictures smaller lets see if it works this time.

That dish does look "reasonably OK", and, if you have the correct adaptor and LNB, then changing it yourself seems a reasonable proposition - just be careful to adjust the "Skew" angle to the same one as the existing LNB (look at the top of the latter and read the scale lines "value" as that's what you would need to set the replacement to)

OTOH, you would also need to make sure that the connections to the F-connectors on the LNB are internally clean, and then tight - and with the sliding cover then pulled down.

TBH, HAD YOU POSTED THOSE PHOTOS WHEN YOU STARTED THIS THREAD, you would probably have received the appropriate info sooner - and maybe even have "fixed your problem" by now

Yea bloody picture sizes forgot i could crop them to make them smaller.
Adjusting the skew? To be honest i changed the lnb on it currently about 10 years ago. All i did was made sure its aligned straight. Does it need to be at a certain angle?
What do you think of the lnb i posted above from amazon? Looks like a 40m collar which should just fit right into the one i got on the arm already.
Or is there a better lnb?
Thanks
