Daybreak, ITV's breakfast show is said to be undergoing a much needed full makeover. The show has been experiencing a ratings slump, with viewers falling to an estimated 700,000, only half of its rival show on BBC. According to sources, ITV bosses have brought in producer Karl Newton, who revived shows like This Morning and Loose Women, and editor David Kermode to start working on turning Daybreak around.

Known for being tough, Newton is said to be thinking of changing the show's hosts, Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley, who were pirated from BBC's hit One Show less than two years ago. Chiles has been said to be too grumpy, and Bleakley has failed to connect with her audience and her glamorous lifestyle and relationship with Frank Lampard is seen as stumbling blocks to likability among female viewers. An insider revealed that the duo met with ITV chief Peter Fincham and were informed that they may no longer be needed. Kate Garraway, who hosts Daybreak on Fridays may also get the axe.

Rumors have been going around as to who may replace the hosts, whom station bosses have described as “lightweights.” Sources say that bosses are looking for serious news presenters for the show. Sian Williams, who is leaving BBC Breakfast, is being considered. Garraway may be replaced by Sky News' Helen Fospero, who will host alongside Dan Lobb, the current Friday host. Lobb, reported to be a favorite among bosses may be offered the role to replace Chiles.

Representatives of both Chiles and Bleakley have refused to comment, and an ITV representative only said: “Daybreak is still in the process of transitioning into the daytime department. We are continuing to develop the show. Our line is Adrian and Christine are the presenters of Daybreak.”

Last August, Peter Fincham had told the press that Chiles and Bleakley's “jobs are safe. No ifs, no buts.” Perhaps because the station signed a £2.8m deal with the duo to stay with the station. Fincham did say their jobs were safe, he simply didn't indicate if those jobs would still have to do with Daybreak.
